Seeking to address the failures of the comedy landscape and entertainment industry to include vital voices, this narrative series set in a limitless magical reality full of dynamic, hilarious characters is notable for its numerous firsts: the first all-black women writer's room (led by Lauren Ashley Smith), the first black woman sketch director (Dime Davis, "Boomerang"), and the first sketch series cast composed entirely of black women. Touching on such culturally relevant themes as social norms, anxiety, religion, sex, dating and relationships, each episode consists of five to six sketches and features guest stars such as Angela Bassett, Laverne Cox, Tia Mowry, Loretta Devine, Kelly Rowland and David Alan Grier.

Not every sketch lands perfectly - and nothing comes close to "The Basic Ball" from Season 1 - but the good far outweigh the bad. Go to Full Review

The show's strengths are on display in its second season: crack timing, excellent cast chemistry, surprises both whimsical and profound, and a knack for esoteric jokes (who knew the Eucharist could be so funny? Thede, Black, and Townsend, that's who) Go to Full Review

jizzy b 03/26/2022 So, So, So funny! I`m glad it`s coming back. See more 05/22/2021 So far, so bad. I didn't like the first season (and was REALLY looking forward to it cause I'm a huge Insecure fan) but the second season is worse than the first, if you can believe it. Simply not funny. Robin Thede, the lead actress, is in most of the roles and isn't funny. At all. Too bad, cause it's an ok premise. See more 05/14/2021 Didn't laugh even once. Watched the first 15 minutes and stopped. I'm not sure who the intended audience is for this mess. See more 05/07/2021 I absolutely love damn near everything about this show. It's so well thought out and every actor goes all-in on these sketches. I literally do a belly laugh with each episode. Season 2 is off to a great start! See more Read all reviews
