Critic Reviews for Agatha Raisin: Season 3

Audience Reviews for Agatha Raisin: Season 3

S1 and S2 are typical British countryside detective comedies. Good writing and characters. Stop there and don't watch S3, you will be happier.

I loved S1 and S2, and was eagerly anticipating the third. I was so disappointed in the storylines and the change in Agatha's character. She was mean and bitchy to the other characters, and cold and unsupportive to James. Their relationship could have worked if the writing were done better. Charlie's better off as a playboy. Agatha said many hurtful things to Bill and Toni and she treats Roy like a slave. She has become unlikeable, a narcissistic, bullying harridan. I hope the writing in S4 is better.

Season 1 and 2 were light but OK. 3 onwards is truly awful. Nasty cheap production and pulp writing.

Season 1 and 2 were fun, entertaining, and enjoyable to watch. The cast, crew and writers were spot on! So what happened with Season 3 because it is awful. Agatha is over the top and Gemma's replacement doesn't seem to be working. If you are listening please bring back the writers from Season 1 and 2.

Disappointed with S3, I turned off. Loved series 1 & 2 and looked forward to S3. Who changed the format? What wise crack wrote plots? Why break what was working? Not impressed messing with Agatha! Sorry, Ashley, love you, but need to save S4 & revert to series 1 & 2 for writers and actors.

Several changes in style, cast and setting diminished this season compared to the first two.

Seasons 1 and 2 were fun and the acting and writing was spot on. This season? Honestly it is a trainwreck. Nothing works from Gemma's replacement to Agatha's relationship with James. Honestly watching Charles and Agatha together was 100 times more interesting than James and Agatha. If you enjoyed season 1 and 2 then do yourself a favor and skip 3.

Agatha Raisin portrays an independent newcomer, whose extraordinary sleuthing skills accompanied by a loyal band of wonderfully quirky locals, are envied by the police force. But without Agatha, crimes would not be solved, or not as quickly. Ashley Jensen stand ups to anything thrown at her and her supporting cast is hilarious, yet pragmatic. I hope there are many more episodes coming, as Agatha's personal life is as intriguing as her professional life. One note, I do miss Katy Wix. Katy plays off of Ashley's Agatha with dry humour adding just the right accent to their scene.

Read Lisa L review, I agree with her 100 percent. Series 3 is a huge disappointment. And I loved the first two seasons so much. The dynamics and acting from all characters is just out of whack. So sad, won't be tuning in again. 😟

I adored the first two seasons of this show, and was greatly looking forward to "Agatha Raisin and the Haunted House." Within the first couple of minutes, though, I knew the show had gone very wrong. The acting was oddly stiff, as though the cast themselves knew it wasn't working, and the script was dull and lacking in the show's usual zany wit. I missed Gemma, there wasn't nearly enough of Charlie Boy, and Agatha and James make a terrible couple. There is no chemistry between them, and their personalities simply don't work together. It was far more believable when Agatha was pining for this strait-laced cold fish who you knew was utterly wrong for her. That leads to another major problem with this episode. We loved Agatha as this outwardly successful, but inwardly miserable loser who kept bravely trying to get the perfect life, without ever coming close to achieving it. It made her interesting, and it made her someone to root for. In this episode, she had the "perfect life"--the man she wanted and the job she wanted. She was a happy Agatha, and therefore a very dull Agatha. I'm hoping the creators of this series realize they went off the rails, and the rest of the season goes back to being the funny, lovable, cheerfully offbeat show we have come to know.
