Tv Season Info

Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine) leaves for her new high school and befriends Izzie (Fivel Stewart), the track team captain. However, this newfound friendship threatens Casey's relationship with Evan (Graham Rogers). Sam (Keir Gilchrist) copes with Casey's leaving through drawing; he is also unable to find a new therapist he could be comfortable with the way he was with Julia (Amy Okuda). Sam's guidance counselor, Ms. Whitaker (Casey Wilson), discovers Sam's drawings and encourages him to apply to university. Doug (Michael Rapaport) learns about Elsa's (Jennifer Jason Leigh) affair and makes her leave the house. However, the stress of housework makes Doug relent and allow Elsa to come back home, though he keeps his distance out of resentment. The second season of "Atypical" also stars Nik Dodani as Sam's best friend Zahid and Jenna Boyd as Sam's pretend girlfriend Paige.

Critic Reviews for Atypical Season 2

All Critics (8) | Top Critics (4)

Atypical is funny, wise, sometimes a bit wobbly in tone but always charming...it's a delightful experience.

Dec 11, 2018 | Full Review…

Aspects of the autistic experience... are often overlooked in our popular culture, and "Atypical" deserves enormous credit for incorporating them, even if it is still heavily flawed.

Sep 22, 2018 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

Atypical is irreverent when it needs to be, insightful when it counts and, above all, empathetic to the pressures of growing up - on or off the spectrum.

Sep 13, 2018 | Full Review…

It ambles along, showing us people struggling with the stuff of life without making that struggle compelling enough to make me fully invested in it.

Sep 12, 2018 | Full Review…

Atypical feels like it's finally becoming the empowering, funny, and deeply human show it always wanted to be.

Chances are you'll fall for him, his family and friends. Don't miss it.

Sep 12, 2018 | Full Review…

While Sam's disorder provides a unique perspective to the world of Atypical, the show is about so much more than that. Season 2 pushes this even further...and finds new ways to enlighten, inspire and surprise by endearing us deeper to its characters.

Sep 4, 2018 | Full Review…

There is no sophomore slump to be found in Atypical. The show is as excellent as it was last year, if not more so. Its sweetness and lack of desire to be crass for crass' sake is just refreshing in today's modern television landscape.

Audience Reviews for Atypical: Season 2

  • May 10, 2020
Just when I thought that it couldn't get better, Atypical steps up it's game on a more romantic field, performances delivered by Gilchrist and Rapaport fueled this comedy with a dramatic flair.

Even better than the first season. All characters have likable and unlikable characteristics. The way conflict is shown is amazing.
  • Dec 22, 2019
Again the show surprises. The theme of autism was not monotonous in the series, managing to work very well on the character, while the other bows continue to innovate and delivering a curious, entertaining and passionate story. The only errors to be pointed out is the inertia of the technical aspects in relation to the previous season, but the great script and the great performances reveal such problems.

It was great! 10/10 would recommend, one of my favourite shows of all time!

Better than the first season for sure. Now, the true soul of the show is coming.

Just started watching this show over the past month and am so happy I did. It's refreshing and takes a look at areas other shows don't often touch on. Looking forward to season 3.

More LGBTQ moments, how original. I was enjoying the story line with Sam, but goodness it is tiresome how movie industries seemingly cannot stop with monkey wrench plots like making Casey question her gender preference. It is pervasive and endless in any „Netflix Original" that a forced narrative like this HAS to be in there. The story drags on a bit with the parents and honestly it's lost it's flare making the direction of this series a bit more confusing pulling away from Sam and focusing on others. Casey is taking the spotlight a bit and to worsen it a random and yet again a bland move by Netflix make her suddenly bi-sexual. I'm not against the LGBTQ community, but rather the bland attempts to take a more socially accepted ground rather than focus on the story line. Im not looking to butt heads here so please don't go on any anger rants.. it's the truth

I can't quite stress how much I enjoy this show. There may well be some criticism that can be applied for not being a fully accurate portrayal of autism, but this doesn't feel like a show about an autistic kid - it is just an incredibly high quality, constantly funny, thoroughly heartwarming and exceptionally well laid out family drama. I would defy anyone not to come away from watching without that contented happiness that great drama can leave you with. It's one of Netflix's best dramas, and should be right at the top of your watch list.

season 2 is not as good as season 1
