What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though Baptiste does little to distinguish itself from The Missing, jolting twists and a deliciously jittery performance by Tom Hollander provide ample enough enticement for mystery fans.

John Doyle Globe and Mail 04/10/2020
A quietly unfolding drama in six episodes, it's coolly gripping and well thought-out. Go to Full Review
John Anderson Wall Street Journal 04/09/2020
After something of a slow start, Baptiste starts to gain momentum and the way it delivers narrative curveballs is striking. So is Mr. Karyo's stolid portrayal of Baptiste. Go to Full Review
Alastair McKay London Evening Standard 11/19/2019
Happily, Baptiste's brain surgery has been a success and he's back. Go to Full Review
David Zurawik Baltimore Sun 04/10/2020
He's Baptiste. And played with pitch-perfect understatement and confidence by Tchéky Karyo, there's still more than enough of him to make for a fine crime drama. Go to Full Review
Henry Northmore The List 11/19/2019
4/5
In a subtly mesmeric performance, Karyo captures the determination and grind necessary to wade through such a dark murky world in a desperate, sometimes futile, attempt to save the lost. Go to Full Review
Rob Carnevale Indie London 11/19/2019
4/5
Baptiste remains grimly compulsive viewing - driven by an intelligent and twisting script, as well as a trio of excellent performances. Go to Full Review

John H @RT97692531 12/15/2023 We started watching Baptiste – Season One (after all it is a Masterpiece Mystery) but after the first two episodes, I was thinking probably won't be watching Season Two. One has to question ones decision to bring such a depraved story line and characters into one's home. And so, after watching episodes three and four, we decided to forgo the last two episodes. See more 11/20/2021 After the excellent Missing, this show is a bit of a letdown. It's slower and less compelling. It also makes clear that maybe the Baptiste character is best in smaller doses, and not as the main actor, because half of what he says sounds like it's from Wikipedia, a fortune cookie, or a guru. See more Le Due M @RT88274588 12/22/2020 Almost amateurish, seems like a RAI fiction See more rosey r @Rosey26 07/20/2020 He's old and run out of steam. The acting is as good as can be. The plot has been told before. Time to retire, Baptiste. See more 07/05/2020 Tried to delete my review but I cant See more 06/26/2020 Loved Baptiste. A compelling mystery with an elderly, retired detective who is smart and compassioate. I looked forward to it on Sunday night as tv highlight. I hope there are many more episodes.
