What to Know

Critics Consensus

A procedural done precisely by the book, Blue Lights' sophomore season adheres to formula but does so with the utmost efficiency and panache.

The stand-out police procedural to come out of the United Kingdom in recent years. Go to Full Review

The characters are so well drawn that when they’re thrust into any sort of tension, you want them -- no, you need them -- to be OK. As drama, it’s utterly arresting. Even when its heroes would rather do anything but. Go to Full Review
Camilla Long The Times (UK) 04/22/2024
The writers saw this, caught our sense of paranoia, creating a horribly plausible show. But the new series doesn’t feel like that any more. It mostly feels like a police sitcom with all the jokes taken out. Go to Full Review
El Kuiper The Mary Sue 07/01/2024
For a show with plenty of explosive, tense, and stake-raising action sequences, it’s the quiet moments that truly sing. These characters feel real, relatable, and genuine. Go to Full Review

While Northern Ireland’s troubled past is a focus this time around, like the magnificent Line of Duty, it’s the interpersonal relationships between the law enforcers that keeps you hooked. Go to Full Review
Alison Rowat The Herald (Scotland) 04/23/2024
The blending of hard-edged and soft is one of the reasons for the show’s success. We want a police procedural set in today’s Belfast to keep it real, but not too real. Go to Full Review

Karen W @Kwin99 Dec 20 Every scene of Blue Lights hits hard, with characters that stay with you long after it’s over. Can’t wait for Season 3! See more Marc P @Cinelover Oct 23 Another really good season. Different than your average police show. See more LookingGlass Aug 14 This show has characters that you fall in-love with right away and others that you love to hate! Fast paced, great dialect, great story driven episodes! See more Lane M May 18 Great series, really enjoyed it - See more Dave S 11/02/2024 Slightly predictable but all cast are authentic, well balanced and story well paced. Leaves you with wanting more. See more Martin D 08/21/2024 Compelling and thrilling in far more than shocks and gasps; the development of the characters and their relationships, both personal and professional draws you into really caring about them, both positively for the decent folk and negatively for the nasties, and there are a few of those. There is also a superbly crafted build-up to a riot scene, showing just how easily ill-meaning characters can use fake stories on social media to create an impetus that takes on a life of its own and is incredibly difficult to divert or slow down, something with recent relevance in the UK. Really good series, building on the success of Series 1 and a worthy successor to the likes of Line of Duty and Happy Valley. Let's hope there's a third season but only if it can maintain this level of writing and performance. Well done BBC See more Read all reviews
