I don't think season three is as structurally perfect as season two, and even after a rewatch there are some elements that don't work as well as they should. But the season is so visually and thematically ambitious that it doesn't really matter.

It's funny, heartbreaking, and extremely intense, leading up to a season finale that builds and builds until you find yourself screaming at your television.

A subdued affair save for multiple homicides and a nightmarish undercurrent that ran throughout.

No half measures for this series, ever. And harking back to the brilliant "Fly" episode, the contamination (moral) is now complete.

While you'll revel in the stillness of the sporadic long, compelling takes, Breaking Bad has in no way lost its zing, quirk or remarkably realistic craziness.

Tightly written and punctuated with Coen brothers-like humour, Breaking Bad is, rather appropriately for a show about meth dealers, eye-bleedingly addictive. I defy you not to become hooked.

Walter has long since become irredeemable... But Cranston is magnetic; it's no wonder he snagged a third consecutive Emmy for this season.

As a show it's never been overly concerned with your expectations of it, and certainly not with your preconceptions of TV traditions as a whole; it just does what it does and lets you catch up in your own time.

A television show is at its best when the real drama occurs beneath the surface of the screen. That's exactly what is happening with this third season of Breaking Bad, and the effect is marvelous.

Breaking Bad's third season addresses past decisions and forces the characters to deal with the consequences. It's a season of fallout, wherein the question is no longer about locating and resolving the ethical dilemmas of what's been done.

I was tugged in by the sheer physical grandeur of the cinematography... Then there was the dark wit and that cast of characters who were somehow both realistic and cartoonish, symbolic and unpredictable, giving it the aura of a fable.

It's incredible how when any minor character is given more than a moment of screentime, they will always reveal the world's darkest stories.

Ends with one of the most "WTF" moments on the show.

The show has been slow to heat up this season, even while it's been as absorbing as always... But last night's episode went in with one, and then turned right around blew the holy hell out of high-impactness at the end. This was good f---ing tv.

What makes the show so good - no, what makes it so great - is that every choice comes with fallout and all the equations in the world can't control it.

With its sense of place, its spare dialogue and its oddball peripheral characters, Breaking Bad is the closest that TV comes to the best Coen brothers movies. That's pretty high praise.

While slow at times, the third season premiere of Breaking Bad provides viewers with just a taste of what's to come as it's the second and third episodes where things start coming together and series really kicks back into gear.
January 15, 2014
Through it all, Breaking Bad still has the power to make a viewer care about what befalls the Whites.

The transition into season 3 is very smooth. This episode works excellently as an episode and also as a season primer.

The episode is improved significantly by the ongoing struggles of this season's early MVP, Hank.
