Before Annabelle of the "Conjuring" movie series, there was another terrifying doll. After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begins to expose the town's hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky's past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll's untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Critics Consensus

A bloody good time that benefits greatly from Brad Dourif's return, Chucky may not play well for non-fans, but franchise devotees will find its absurd humor and creative horror very much intact on the small screen.

Chucky works rather well, with the doll coming first to embody then pervert Jake's wholly reasonable desire for revenge on his tormentors. Go to Full Review

Chucky is a delight; a warped, wise, funny and very droll series with bits of gore thrown in, but nothing gory enough to hurt your head. It's a rigorous reinvention. Go to Full Review

It won't win over many new converts, but anyone with a soft spot for the cheery maniac doll will no doubt get a kick out of his latest reign of terror. Go to Full Review

The acting is great, the visuals and the atmosphere are immediately captivating. And the sheer amount of gore the show includes is also delightful. Go to Full Review

'Chucky' seamlessly transitions from film to TV, and it is pure joy. This is a perfect first season. It also has some of the best kills we have ever seen on basic cable. Go to Full Review

See more Justin T @RT08580778 Mar 13 I didn’t find the characters especially engaging, especially for the first few episodes. I also found the acting variable, sometimes it was fine, sometimes it was weak. It also started with stereotypical characters but they pivoted to be more interesting as the season went on. Chucky is entertaining but it feels like an MTV show with slow motion and pop music. The concept doesn’t work well as a 6 hour series, if it had been a feature it would have been more entertaining. There are some funny moments, some intriguing ones etc but not enough for a whole series. It just doesn’t have the content unlike Ash vs Evil Dead (2015-2018). You do need to see the films first otherwise you’ll be missing too much background. I appreciate that it fits into the extensive lore, albeit ignoring Child's Play (2019). It’s okay, it passes the time, it’s not bad or good, it’s just about fine.
