Critics Consensus

A so-so police drama with an interesting premise, Crossing Lines is kept from taking flight by dull characters and hackneyed plotting.

Critic Reviews for Crossing Lines Season 1

All Critics (18) | Top Critics (12)

The series, undeservedly getting thumped in the ratings so far, is a polished procedural with a sophisticated atmosphere.

Jul 6, 2013 | Full Review…

Crossing Lines tells a satisfying story of the hunt for an international serial killer, but it is so clumsy in its efforts to set up an emotional payoff that it probably shouldn't have tried at all.

Jun 25, 2013 | Full Review…

Crossing Lines isn't breezy enough for a summer diversion. Instead it's ponderous, pretentious and too predictable.

Jun 19, 2013 | Rating: C | Full Review…

'Crossing Lines' has some fun with the culture clashes and features some decent performers slumming it. Sadly, it comes unstuck almost everywhere else.

Jul 17, 2018 | Full Review…

With Netflix's library of crime and legal thrillers including things as good as Line of Duty, The Killing and The Divide, this one will probably slide a fair way down your list.

Mar 28, 2018 | Full Review…

Though constructed from off-the-rack tropes and predictable dialogue, the show also keeps moving forward, causing its characters enough trouble that you feel compelled to stick around at least to see how they get out of it.

Jun 25, 2013 | Full Review…

It's almost like Fichtner's reprising his role from Prison Break, playing an agent with a serious drug addiction. It works, as he was as much a standout on that show as he is here.

Jan 2, 2019 | Full Review…

This series has been shamefaced about appearing here, but I'm in the dark as to why. It's magnificent toshtastic bahoolery, and I loved it.

Jan 2, 2019 | Full Review…

Crossing Lines seems content to just stick with boring stereotypes.

Jul 3, 2018 | Full Review…

The team is a colorful group, plus Fichtner is a wonderful leading man. The show also has a feeling of more of a cable show than a network show.

Jun 23, 2013 | Full Review…

We've seen this show before. Too many times, in fact.

If only the crime itself didn't seem so drearily familiar.

Audience Reviews for Crossing Lines: Season 1

  • Apr 22, 2020
Very Rotten. Put off by the first episode of the pilot when the continuity failed miserably for the character Carl who was first shown wearing a glove on his damaged right hand followed by another shot at 05:43 where the left hand was wearing the glove! Found the plots implausible, the script saccharine and acting wooden. A drama needs to be dramatic and this just wasn't. Watched up to episode 3 to see if it would get any better. It didn't. Won't bother watching any more of it.

The first two seasons were good. William Fichtner was good as the lead. I don't know why they chose to replace almost everyone for the 3rd season. Elizabeth Mitchell as a former Chicago cop is horrible. She sounds like a prep school teacher. No accent, nothing to make her believable as a Chicagoan. And no Chicago cop would every use the word "gobsmacked"! I laughed out loud when she said that.

I love this show, I think it is great!

Much more interesting the average American Crapolla.

I loved the first two seasons and thought they were well written. Skip the third season! It is full of gratuitous sex scenes that ruin the show along with horrible plots. Sad!!! When will they learn to write good shows without the unnecessary garbage?

    Love love love this show!??

Discovered this series when I was caught up on NCIS, Criminal Minds, and The Following. A little disappointed that most of the cast jumped ship after Season 2, but still worthy of a few Saturday nights.

I wish I had watched this show and rated it sooner. Looking at its wikipedia page I can't tell if it is going to air another season. Crossing Lines is an exciting show that involves some police drama and international intrigue. The first 2 or 3 episodes might be choppy but eventually gels as the new team cops gets to know one another and work together. We get to know characters and see how their personal lives creep into their work life in ways that I hope are creating the basis for climax in future intrigues. I read a critic who wrote that Donald Sutherland was given the part for name recognition only but the fact is this role is a kind of character in circumstances that Donald Sutherland does really really well. Lastly this is my first encounter with the Irish actor Richard Flood, who to my eye looks a little like Tom Cruise, but his presence on the screen is clearly different. For years when I watch Tom Cruise movies I am not sure if he is acting a character or playing himself. So ya I hope to see Richard Flood in future films but I can't stop wondering if Richard Flood in the place of Tom Cruise would have made a some of Cruises so/so or rotten films better.

A usual premise gets refreshened by the various cultures and the marvelous scenery. I just wish each spoke more in their language.
  • Mar 30, 2014
I really liked the pilot. However, it fell back into a predictable "criminal minds" sort of drama after the second episode.
