Season 5 continues the period drama set in the 1920s and sees the addition of new cast members Richard E. Grant and Anna Chancellor. The 1924 general election brings a new Labour goverment in to power and the building of a war memorial is planned with Carson at the head of the committee. Further storylines include Edith's pregnancy and the consequences of Rose and Jack's broken engagement.
