Henry Beckman was a big fish in the small pond of Amsterdam, Mo. But then he let his girlfriend Heather talk him into moving to Chicago to work for her family business -- and that's where it all went wrong. In one morning, Henry's dumped by Heather, learns he doesn't have a job anymore and gets kicked out of their apartment. Henry then moves in with flashy Larry Cone, a modern-day Dean Martin who decides to take Henry under his wing -- teaching him the wisdom of staying single and living the good life. Under Larry's tutelage, Henry begins to rebuild his life and starts working for Larry's childhood friend Amanda, a gal who's unsuccessfully trying to emulate her perfect ideal of womanhood: Kelly Ripa.

There's not a moment or character that rings true, and the only joke you're likely to remember is an anatomical gag you'd probably rather forget. Go to Full Review

With the exception of Mr. [John] Sloan, whose acting-class stiffness keeps him aloof from the fun, this intelligent cast seems poised to enjoy the show's sound architecture. Go to Full Review
Brian Lowry Variety 10/03/2019
Painfully familiar and virtually laugh-free, the series has one character with potential, but beyond that, it's hard to imagine Fox won't be yelling "last call" relatively soon. Go to Full Review
Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 10/03/2019
Larry's tomboy friend, Amanda (Beth Lacke), makes more of an impression than any of the other characters in a blowsy, Jennifer Coolidge sort of way... that's not enough to make this even a happy half-hour. Go to Full Review

It's the kind of show that wouldn't have looked out of place on Fox 15 years ago, when it might have passed as original. Go to Full Review

Happy Hour isn't the most original of sitcoms, serving up a large helping of relationship woes and sexual innuendoes. Go to Full Review
