What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ostensibly a feminist epic, Heeramandi's lavish production design and sprawling cast are hampered by rote pacing and a grim treatment of its characters.

Bhansali and his brand of youthful heartbreak has always been a strong point of his narratives, but here, when the older women are in full flow, opening up their hard-won chest of wiles and wanton-ness, that it earns its histrionics, and makes you stay. Go to Full Review

Spare me the liberalism and feminism of Heeramandi. They mean little when coming from the Bhansali who also made Padmaavat. Go to Full Review

These eight episodes -- meandering, incompetent, and empty -- are proof that when it comes to women, Bhansali has been -- and is -- the kind of filmmaker who is far more comfortable in depicting the illusion of their strength rather than a display of it. Go to Full Review

Aun M @AunMohammad Sep 19 I was initially skeptical about watching Heeramandi, dismissing it as just a series about courtesans. However, from the very first episode, I was completely captivated. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's masterpiece is a stunning confluence of love, emotion, poetry, and intricate palace politics. The opulent sets are so breathtakingly beautiful, you feel transported into the palace itself. The performances are exceptional, with Manisha Koirala and Sonakshi Sinha leaving a particularly powerful, lasting impression while Sharmin Segal needs to learn deeply about acting and expressions. The delicate Urdu dialogue adds a layer of authentic beauty to this compelling saga. This series is an absolute triumph and well worth the watch.
