The stress of Nate (Timothy Hutton) and Sophie's (Gina Bellman) fleeting affair taking a heavier emotional toll on either expected, Nate resumes drinking as Hardison (Aldis Hodge) and Parker (Beth Riesgraf) fall into an unexpected romance in season four of the hit primetime drama "Leverage". This time out, the team attempts to discern the whereabouts of a missing climber (Eric Stoltz) who may have met with foul play in the mountains of Alaska, endeavors to aid a desperate World War II veteran (Danny Glover), and finds a peculiar German filmmaker (Peter Stormare) turning his probing lens on some crucial bit-players from some previous episodes (played by Richard Chamberlain, Tom Skerritt, and Wil Wheaton).

The case of course was solved/bad guys caught. But what remains is my complete and utter respect for the badassery of Eliot Spencer.

Rather than aim for that kind of stylish, champagne-among-scoundrels feel, Leverage aims for more of a Miller time vibe, and is probably better for it.

These characters are good looking, smart, ultra cool, super talented and they each have their own interesting personalities and relationships and we care about what they do which is why Leverage is one of the better offerings of the summer.

Proves there's a way to work a Leverage-style caper into any era, with any characters.

Where Season 4 succeeds is in its playfulness; the majority of the episodes here are gimmicky and fun rather than overly serious.

I'll always give Leverage credit for being able to remain mostly goofy and yet still be able to pull off very quick scenes of potent drama.

Most of the episodes are fun, especially when they stick to the formula. Now with everyone knowing their place, the characters can work together and do their jobs as they need to.

We can hope that Season Four will offer variety in both locations and plots.
