What to Know

Critics Consensus

Unnecessarily dense storytelling and an oversaturation of acronyms gives the sense that this sturdy procedural may be overextending itself, but Kelly Macdonald reports in for duty to provide some fresh blood and intrigue.

Its ever-rotating cast of guest stars has always been one of Line Of Duty's greatest strengths, and within two short hours, Kelly Macdonald is already shaping up to be one of the most mad and memorable. Go to Full Review

I've griped about various bits of this show over the years - the jargon, the references to people and places we'd completely forgotten about... but it stands head and shoulders above most other dramas. Go to Full Review

But in the last few episodes of Line of Duty and particularly the finale, containing a supposedly towering speech by Hastings so pedestrian that even Dunbar could barely sell it, the message has hardly been moulded at all. I Go to Full Review

[Might] be beyond its best years but it is still at times the most thrilling thing on TV. Go to Full Review

[The premiere] might have represented an unusually slow trundle to the top of the ride. Yet now that we've got there, the ride itself looks like giving us our money's worth again. Go to Full Review

Here's hoping for more characters like Hastings, Bartlet and McCall based on the knowledge that television can shape our values and behavior as well as simply reflect them. Go to Full Review

Chet T 01/28/2024 Line of Duty is exceptionally well written and stars a new lead actor each season to carry the drama along side the trio of Kate, Steve and Hastings. Every season is solid, particularly seasons 3, 4 & 5 (Steven Graham stars). The ending is a bit underwhelming but overall it deserves the 96 rating! See more Edmond W 04/02/2023 S6 is Not as good as previous seasons. DCI Jo's acting is definately poor and doesn't look like a DCI at all. She may only look like a vulnerable lady. The ending of the season is surprisingly bad, and I don't believe audience is happy with Ian as the last H. It doesn't close out the story. See more 11/05/2021 Line of Duty is probably my favourite UK TV production of all time. Great acting and writing. One of the few TV series that wasn't predictable and there were lots of twists and turns I didn't expect. See more Biff H 10/13/2021 This is a great show through all 6 seasons. I wish it would continue. See more 09/08/2021 Without a doubt, the best police-drama out there. An outstanding show, intricate in detail. Gripping, thrilling, clever. Brilliant! See more 09/04/2021 This season seems to have referred to every season that preceded it. I would need a map of all the characters and their relationships and plots to really understand it all. It's still a good show but I hope next season they make the plot line more self-contained, so we don't have to reflect on the minute details of what happened years ago in seasons 1-5! On the bright side, if you feel like binging six seasons of a great show, then you might be able to actually follow season six without issue. See more Read all reviews
