In this eerie mystery series, private investigator Mick St. John is charismatic, resourceful and undead. Alex has been a vampire since he was bitten by his bloodsucking bride, Coraline, 60 years ago. He struggles against his vampire nature, using his sharpened senses to help the living. Mick's life -- undeath -- whatever -- gets complicated when he falls for Beth Turner, a reporter haunted by dreams of a man who looks like Mick. Is there even a chance Beth would consider joining Mick's world as his lover?

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite an intriguing noir aesthetic and the gothic charisma of Alex O'Loughlin, Moonlight just plain ol' sucks.

What is the point of making a TV show about a vampire if the vampire is so boring? Go to Full Review

Woeful acting? Check. Cheap effects? Check. Worst writing of the new season? Check. Predictability? Pretensions? Faint imitations of superior shows? Someone at CBS shouldn't just have their neck bitten, but sliced through, for this one. Go to Full Review

Moonlight doesn't deserve an engaging lead, since it's dead -- not dead and then undead, just plain dead -- on arrival. Go to Full Review

The show isn't terrible. It's just a mix of disparate parts that really don't add up to much. Go to Full Review

The two of them make a decent team when it comes to solving crimes, though their cases aren't especially challenging, and clues tend to land in their laps. Go to Full Review

Gene C @RT33631898 Sep 28 I loved that show and so sad it ended early... See more J P @RT07905937 Jun 16 Watched this series when it first came to television and even after all these years my reaction is still the same. It is worth the watch. A crime show with a twist, but even more so a underbelly that needed to be explored. Its unfortunate demise before it's time. One could only hope they bring it back to life. See more Kristy F @RT73031256 11/21/2024 Just watched it again in 2024! This show was awesome, we were robbed that it was only one season...thanks writers strikes *rolls eyes.* I sure hope they bring it back at some point, had Kolchak the Night Stalker vibes. See more David M @RT02861785 07/10/2024 The show was remarkable i loved it and loved the romance lessons in it,wished it had continued,no other vamp tv series beats Moonlight See more 05/01/2022 I can only assume that CBS just didn't have faith in this show from the beginning. The show is low budget and it shows. At a minimum, you would think that a supernaturally centered show, about vampires, would have, at its core, special effects. No, this show's presentation of what a "vampire" is, contact lenses and fake teeth, and THAT'S IT. Oh and super strength, speed, etc, non existent. Not only that, but because of this complete lack of budget, they present preposterous scenarios like a victim family member, at an execution witnessing, meets a reporter and goes home with her. No you didn't have the budget to create her own house and present a believable story. I've seen stage plays with more immersion and believability in them, than this show. The acting was bad and the writing was horrible. Lasting one season shows why. I notice some of the other reviews are from people remembering how they felt, watching the show, when they were a child. See more steve d @RT35616104 07/26/2020 It does nothing new with its strong cast and cool atmosphere, leading views to feel like we have already seen it. See more Read all reviews
