What to Know

Critics Consensus

By being just as interested in Martin Scorsese the man as it is in Martin Scorsese the director, Rebecca Miller's rollicking documentary provides as revelatory a portrait of the master filmmaker as admirers could've ever hoped for.

As a whole, Rebecca Miller’s five-part "film portrait" is a robust, near-insurmountable argument for the genius of Martin Scorsese, yet it spends its runtime always teetering on the brink of revelation. Go to Full Review

Incisively making links between Scorsese’s life and work, and letting its A-list guest stars tell wonderful stories, this is a smart, fast salute to a goodfella. Go to Full Review

You'll learn about filmmaking and Scorsese but I wish we got interviews that included the negative. When we do hear horrible stories, the director laughs, trying not to offend him. We get a 2-dimensional view of him instead of a full 3-dimensional look. Go to Full Review

See more John Y. @JYJr16 Dec 2 Not sure any other director could warrant a doc this long. Everything covered and plenty of star power contributing. See more Alette G. @LettiSketti Nov 15 I went through a movies phase in the 2010s and wanted to see the kind of American films that were on lists such as 10 greatest movies of all time, etc. Scorsese has a well deserved spot on that list and getting the opportunity to understand him and his upbringing brings so much more meaning to the films of his I always enjoy. Great biographical docu series that made me sit down and want to hear more. See more Anya S @AnyaS Nov 5 Five parts and not near enough! An absolutely riveting and compelling look at the workings of a great creative mind that sees the world in film language, and the family background and influences, personal partnerships and collaborations that shaped his amazing body of work. A perfect blend of film clips and interviews, perfectly edited. Must viewing for movie lovers. Love his Mama! See more Sal D @JustTheLaw Nov 2 An invaluable, intimate look into Scorsese especially for those who are a fan of his work. See more Read all reviews
