Once behind bars, Piper contends not only with the "fishbowl" of prison life (where seemingly miniscule infractions can leave one starved, stalked, or worse), but the challenges of maintaining a long-distance relationship with her fiancé, Larry (Jason Biggs). Sep 16, 2013 | Full Review… Andy Greenwald Grantland Top Critic We, as the audience, are taken along, experiencing the same steep learning curve...they're all three-dimensional, and more than a little haunting. And each episode ends with a cliffhanger that has you eager to see the next immediately. And for people who love stories, the possibilities of this new genre are fabulously exciting. Oct 19, 2018 | Full Review… Stephen Marche Esquire Magazine The show manages a balance of in-the-gut emotional moments and a patina of snarky humor, both of which the show uses to address the daily indignities, trials, and tribulations of prison life, as well as its moments of bonding and real, human interaction. Oct 9, 2018 | Full Review… Deborah Krieger I on the Arts It is so refreshing, honest, gritty, funny and moving that "prison drama" is hardly the right category. Dec 3, 2019 | Full Review… Eric Deggans Tampa Bay Times View All Critic Reviews (55) Audience Reviews for Orange Is the New Black: Season 1 Oct 09, 2019 Orange Is The New Black routinely pays homage to its form, by referencing books throughout the entire Netflix original series. After the first season, the show heavily diverges from the truth of the memoir it was based on, though the show still makes an effort to honor books by including them in the characters lives. Not only do inmates rely on story to get through their incarceration, but their incarceration becomes a story (ie. Orange Is The New Black: A Memoir by Piper Kerman). OITNB may weave a tall tale, but a tale that is rooted in truth. Although the lives of Chapman and the other inmates depicted on the show are fictitious, they are based on real people in true situations. The show brings to light real issues that exist within the prison system, and educates us while entertaining us. Image result for oitnb standing on tables the animals The show dramatizes and exaggerates the realities of prison riots, and idealizes an outcome that could benefit the entire prison system. By grouping all of the worst-case scenarios in a Murphys-Law sort of way, the show educates people about prison life, laws, and serves as a sort of guide on How-To avoid prison. Amanda A Aug 16, 2019 I absolutely hated the last season.....one political statement after another, all over the place story lines, jumped the shark so many times it is ridiculous, and what is this '18 months in prison'....makes no sense when you see all the babies born and age. Anne H Jul 29, 2019 A Far Leftist political Agenda at hand. Stopped watching after episode 4. They are shoving their feminist man hating mentally ill propaganda at the young people watching it and its a shame. The episode with the ICE facility, WAY off course and completely fabricated. This is no longer entertainment. Absolutely disgusted at the amount of fabricated and false information in this series that is supposed to be about life behind bars for women. Watch WENTWORTH you wont be disappointed or have this BS shoved down your throat j f Feb 26, 2019 Excellent series. I would have rated it 5, because it is, but for one thing: it's a bit rough and crude for me. Yeah, I know they're rough and tough prisoners. Even so, it's a bit much for me. But all the characters are well defined, the acting is superb, the writing excels, the premise is unique. I loved Season 1, and binge watched the remaining seasons. I couldn't help it. And it continued to be great. Kate Mulgrew was a standout, as was Suzanne, who appears in a later season. The little gal who spouted religion - a really good actress. Highly recommend, but it's okay if you fast forward through some of the gross scenes. Donna B Feb 21, 2019 First two seasons are good. Third and fourth are ok but the fifth and sixth seasons the social justice warriors and me too writing creeps in and ruins the show. I will be skipping season seven Matthew K Sep 30, 2018 The cast OITNB never ceases to blow my mind. This is without a doubt the most talented troop of actors ever assembled in the history of television. The writing and directing is the tightest of any series out there. It's poignant, illuminating, and hilarious all at the same time. OITNB definitely makes my list of best TV series of all time. Robert S Aug 23, 2018 it is a nice series funny and original. Aug 17, 2018 Unusual women's prison drama carefully creates a miniature society with multiple facets and subs-plots; it is at times suspenseful, endearing, tragic, uplifting, enraging, revealing, humorous - and entertaining. William K Jul 03, 2018 This show is epic, you can find everything here, if you want to cry, smile, if you need watch a thriller or all at the same time. Just Fantastic . Thank You Jenji for make this. (My Favorite show) Alex F May 20, 2018 I've avoided this, overwhelmed by the Thought of catching up on 5 seasons now I'm wondering what I'll do in 5 days time when I've binge-watched every episode.
