Some people say that anyone on Earth can be connected to any other person (including Kevin Bacon) through a chain of six people, a concept known as six degrees of separation. Is the world really that small? And can we impact the life of someone halfway across the world? Six very different strangers in New York City go about their daily lives without realizing the impact they're actually having on one another -- that is, until a mysterious set of coincidences draws them together, changing the course of their lives forever.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite a well-assembled cast, Six Degrees' central plot about interconnections at the Big Apple doesn't have enough moving parts to merge these boring individual stories into a truly interesting drama.

Taken apart, each of the plots is only moderately interesting... But wound together and turning, they have a music-of-the-spheres effect, a unique harmony. Go to Full Review

Direction is sharp. New York, used in a still rather than a frenetic manner, makes the perfect setting for the show, adding to the plausibility of each interaction. Go to Full Review

It's a watchful show that derives operatics not from history and family but from Whitman-like city life: fleeting glances and run-ins and curiosity and sudden engagement. Go to Full Review

The result is a distinctly likeable, affable series that could hook fans simply on the strength of its stellar casting. Go to Full Review

Once you get past this romance-novel nonsense, you'll find that executive producer J.J. Abrams (Lost)... have crafted a pleasantly diverting bumper-car drama of chance encounters, new friendships and random triggers. Go to Full Review
Rob Owen Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 10/01/2019
The concept is unique, the performances solid, but when so many similar shows are competing for attention from viewers who are only willing to commit so much time to watching ongoing TV series, "Six Degrees" just isn't good enough. Go to Full Review
