Cage has enormous fun with all of this but also establishes that his character sometimes is primarily a spider and physicalizes that in a way that's just a riot. If you saw him in "Vampire's Kiss," you're familiar with his brand of unbridled acting.

Nicolas Cage gives a four-star performance in a three-star Spidey-adjacent series that is almost but not quite as gloriously unhinged as he is playing a 1930’s gumshoe who’s 70 percent Humphrey Bogart and 30 percent Bugs Bunny.

The most novel wrinkle involves offering two versions -- one in black and white, the other muted color -- and the look is certainly cool, but the overall tone, starting with Cage’s clipped delivery, feels stilted.

Spider-Noir is a slick, stylish change of pace from standard web-slinging fare, but it struggles to cross the finish line. On the visual front, the show is an absolute knockout. The cinematography, sets, props, and costume design capture a gorgeous, gritty Boardwalk Empire atmosphere. The supporting ensemble is equally strong and fits the era well. Where the series falters is in its execution. Watching the True-Hue Color cut, the palette felt oversaturated, making some stunningly framed shots look unintentionally cartoonish. The dialogue occasionally leans into cringey, over-the-top 1930s accents that pull you out of the immersion. While Nicolas Cage is a legend, his performance here feels distinctly like watching an actor play a part rather than disappearing into the role. Ultimately, the story ends on an anticlimactic finale with a tropey mirror maze scene. It’s an enjoyable, unique entry in the Spider-Man catalog, but it feels like it's missing the core spark needed to be great.

Spider Noir is certainly an interesting entry into the Marvel universe. Quite a unique (and nostalgic, of course!) take on Spiderman, and Cage and cast deliver a decent new branch to the Spidey's storyline. I'm glad they finished this with just the one season rather than stringing iit out for a second season..

I really enjoyed this addition to the spider verse. It was new fresh and cleaver. Everything that the Spider-Man films try to be but fail. Nick Cage seems to relish in the role and seems to really enjoy it. The set pieces are good and the idea to be filmed two different ways gives the story and the Spider-Man story a new and exciting idea. Superheroes for grown ups. Amazon seems to be on a role which is exciting. Despite winning awards it’s not clear if there will be or not a season 2 for now we hope and just our spider senses
