Injecting a heavy dose of hormones and humor into the Star Trek universe, Starfleet Academy marks a refreshing tonal shift that proves this franchise still has plenty of new thematic territory to explore.

The sets are brighter, the dialogue is sharper, with more expletives than expected from the elders as well as the kids, and the character development is strong across the board. Go to Full Review

“Starfleet Academy” is not a particularly serious story... When the show wants to be funny, though, it is. Go to Full Review

A promising collection of characters and storylines just setting the table for future achievement, not quite ready to prove its value beyond the legends of Kirk and Spock. Go to Full Review

While there are some high points in the episodes, Starfleet Academy doesn’t get passing marks on its report card. Go to Full Review

Aimed at YAs, it's far too melodramatic with sci-fi jargon-filled dialogue that's shallow, superficial & often mumbled. As Chancellor. Holly Hunter is sloppy & unkempt, flopping in the captain's chair like a barefoot hippie in a dorm room. Go to Full Review

Starfleet Academy really isn’t a gamble, it is just drivel, poorly conceived in an effort to meet an audience Star Trek doesn’t have where it thinks they are. Go to Full Review

Sherry D @RT19179932 4 days ago This show is wonderful! Something Trek that is different and fresh. I don't know what these jerks are talking about. The Original series got canceled after 3 seasons for being too "woke." That's Star Trek. If you can't handle it. You are not a trekkie. Watch something else and leave my Star Trek alone. Because a bunch off whiny little boys only want to see versions of creepy Kirk this fabulous show got cancel. Pansies! See more john J @Hereinbama35 Aug 29, 2026 It’s almost like they are trying to make garbage! What is wrong with these people. Will someone please make good Star Trek again!? See more Annmarie H @Annmarie493 Aug 26, 2026 It is a good show. Yeah there is some odd things in there but good graphics, decent writing, good comical relief. It's not like the space cadets are tugging each other in closets. I hope they keep going with it. See more Chris T @TheHappyHermit Aug 25, 2026 I am dumbfounded that I liked this season. I am a long time Star Trek fan. I hated Section 31, and I hated the Starfleet Academy trailer. The Academy haters on YouTube were saying the season was exactly what I thought it would be, so I initially refused to watch it. I finally sat down to watch it, and I enjoyed this season more than any "New Trek" other than Picard season 3. I still can't believe it. I am glad I was open-minded enough to finally give it a chance. See more Nick T @RT31440380 Aug 24, 2026 Why Starfleet Academy Feels Anti-Star Trek Starfleet Academy isn’t bad because it’s young, diverse, progressive, or different. Star Trek has always been all of those things. The problem is that classic Trek imagined humanity becoming better. More disciplined, competent, curious, restrained, and morally serious. Starfleet wasn’t there to validate every feeling. It was an institution people had to rise to meet. Starfleet Academy often feels like the opposite: very contemporary young adults, with contemporary language and emotional habits, dropped into the 32nd century with Starfleet branding around them. That’s what makes it feel strangely anti-Trek. The great idea behind Star Trek was never just space exploration. It was that human beings could mature enough to deserve the technology and power they had created. A series about Starfleet Academy should be about transforming immature, talented young people into officers capable of representing humanity among the stars.
