What to Know

Critics Consensus

A swing for the comedy fences, The Hawk may miss more often than it connects but still finds moments of the chaotic charm that made Will Ferrell a standout.

Audience Says

The Hawk doesn’t quite soar to prime sport comedy-heights, but Will Ferrell keeps the laughs rolling through the rough patches.

It's an amiably shambly golfing comedy that finds him doing all the familiar Will Ferrell things. Although he's an acquired taste I've never fully acquired, I found myself laughing enough to watch all 10 half-hour episodes. Go to Full Review

The Hawk takes a formula that once worked well for Ferrell -- the charming but brash man-child that stumbles his way into success -- and flattens it into a parody of itself. Go to Full Review

Will Ferrell’s answer to Happy Gilmore is as much bogey as it is birdie, but there are some tasteless treats to be had. Would have been better as a film, though. Go to Full Review

Love Will Ferrell to death, but this was a tough one to get through. Just not that funny or fun. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

“The Hawk” is Will Ferrell’s latest attempt to capture time in a bottle. That time has passed and this bottle is broken. Go to Full Review

The same formula repeated over and over will make it hard to finish the whole series in one sitting. The Hawk is funny at times, but overall, this series is a big swing and a miss. Go to Full Review

Sam A @Padlock 2d Halarious. Love the characters so much, especially the Caddie. The bond between the hawk and his Caddie is worth watching it for. Love the banter between Lonnie and his wife who he's separated from. See more Dylan K @dylank 3d So much better than the scores show. If you like Will Ferrell then you will love this show, it's really that simple. The role was literally made for him and it shows. Such a fun show with great characters and classic Will Ferrell at his best See more Matty D @RT82020921 5d Ignore the critics, this show is absolute genius. It's the perfect character for Will Ferrel, is multiple layers deep, well written and freaking hilarious 😂 add in a dose of green and you'll be in stitches. See more Cody R @CodyRacine Aug 19 Hilarious! Don't understand the critics score then again Comedy is totally subjective and they arent trying to be Wes Anderson or Lynch. Classic Will Ferrell and stellar cast. I dig this show and if you enjoy Will Ferrill so will you! See more Magic N @RT67557970 Aug 18 A lot of people are judging The Hawk purely on the comedy, and i think that misses what makes it so good. Underneath all the ridiculousness, it is a pretty bleak character study about Lonnie and his inability to let go of who he used to be. His entire identity is build around being "The Hawk," so when his body starts failing, the sport moves on and his son becomes the golfer people care about, he has no idea who he is anymore. His comeback feels less like ambition and more like adiction. Thats what makes his relationship with Lance so interesting too. He loves his son, but he also sees him as proof that he is being replaced. The comedy is supposed to feel uncomfortable at times because there is soemthing genuienly sad underneath it. Lonnie constantly turns failure into another story to protect his ego. The Hawk is not just a gold comedy. It is about ageing, obsession, family and a man desperatley trying to outrun the fact that his best days might already be behind him. See more Adam W @RT89063115 Aug 18 Are you kidding me?
