Critic reviews for The Other Side
A good portion of "The Other Side," the 14th episode in The Walking Dead's seventh season, is dedicated to emotional beats from characters who have been dealing with pent-up feelings since Negan's brutal murder spree in Episode 1.
Still, it's an exciting enough cliffhanger, as Rosita finds some surprise backup in Daryl as the episode ends, promising even more action next week.
When it decides to slow down to give us character-centric vignettes, rather than letting their personalities and emotions emerge from their involvement in the plot, it starts to lag, and feel like a lot like filler.
There's nothing especially revelatory, but it doesn't just feel like talking for the sake of it - there seems to be a real attempt to draw a line in the sand beyond what has happened in the past.
I want to be invested here. I really do. But the plotting of this show is so agonizingly stupid, almost every single week, that I can't even begin to suspend my disbelief.
