Guardian Staff Guardian 09/15/2018
Heralding in alternative comedy's 80s boom, The Young Ones swapped plotlines for surrealism, dialogue for a hail of "bastards!" and the pretence of a structurally sound set for a load of kicked-in prop walls. Go to Full Review
Jason Heller AV Club 09/14/2018
Almost every line of the script is a quotable gem readymade for a cult following. Go to Full Review

It was like an atomic bomb exploding all over television screens, the show combining slapstick and surrealism with jokes about politics, class and giant sandwiches falling from the sky. Go to Full Review
Bonnie Stiernberg Paste Magazine 09/11/2018
The show's surreal humor, slapstick gags and frequent breaking of the fourth wall helped pave the way for more "alternative" comedy, and it even aired on MTV in 1986 as one of the network's first non-music shows. Go to Full Review

Mason M 07/27/2024 hilarious sitcom! my dad got season 1 and 2 on dvd way back and i watch it often! See more Rene R 09/09/2022 I really enjoy this TV show I love this show can't stop laughing especially the stuff in the house they talk like their pet the rats the cleaning supplies they're like puppets I love all the episodes they'll never be a show like this one one of a kind the best characters on this show Vivian the bastard☆☆☆☆, Mike the cool person, Neil the hippie, Jerzei Balowski, the people's poet Rick rest in peace we miss you. See more Jonathan K @NojEsco 10/20/2021 The Young Ones was an unexpected show, not only for the world but for myself over 25 years later. I saw bits of it on Comedy Central but having finally sat down and watched it, I was shocked by how daring and insane this show was. It has an oddly tenuous, yet not entirely removed, relationship with reality, and many of the situational moments are incredibly creative. More significantly, however, the character dynamics are absolutely perfect: You have an anarchist, a suicidal hippie, a grifter and a wannabe hardcore political activist. Combine these characters with insane plots and Cast them with genuinely perfect matches for the characters, and you've got four of the best main characters of any show this side of Red Dwarf. This show is pure high-energy mania, combined with some happy dips into intense controversial material, and the world of television is all the richer because of this show. See more 01/01/2021 Completely hilarious and the original series about nothing, should have lasted more than 2 seasons! See more e h @Mister-E 12/19/2020 I just loved the quirky craziness of this show. Lentils anyone? FYI RT: This show never aired on the BBC's prime channel BBC 1. See more Read all reviews
