Critic Reviews for Top Chef Masters Season 3
All Critics (5) | Top Critics (4) | Fresh (2) | Rotten (3)
The contestants are already established chefs playing for charity money, so there are no stakes for anyone, and little in the way of backbiting... And about as entertaining as a bottle of Nembutal.
There are some colorful personalities on display and five-plus years into the franchise, the production team knows exactly how to put together a briskly-paced, entertaining hour of television.
Part of its appeal has been that it focused attention on the chefs' virtuosity, and not merely on the weekly competition.
It's about really stepping back and thinking about what used to make Top Chef Masters stand out, and why that was so completely absent.
Top Chef Masters was, for a time, better than its parent. Now it's dropped to the bottom of the pile, as Top Chef Just Desserts was a far superior spin-off.
