In this reimagining of the classic Dracula story, the world is dominated by vampires, requiring humans to work together to survive. The series centers on Vanessa Helsing, daughter of famed vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, who wakes up after a five-year coma to discover a vampire-controlled world. She soon learns that she possesses a unique blood composition that makes her immune to vampires and able to turn the creatures into humans. That power puts humanity's last hope to return the world to how it once was before the vampires took over in Vanessa's hands.

Van Helsing's commitment to expanding the world in whatever ways necessary to tell the most interesting story possible is pretty admirable, and always keeps us on our toes. Go to Full Review

Victor octavian V @RT35008526 Jan 6 The decision to pivot the show toward an almost exclusively female-centric power structure, including the gender-flipping of iconic literary figures like Dracula, felt less like an organic evolution of the lore and more like a deliberate "check-the-box" agenda. By prioritizing the "woman power" and LGBTQ+ subplots over the gritty, survivalist tension established in Season 1, the stakes began to feel artificial. When a series focuses more on signaling specific social values than on maintaining the dark, high-stakes atmosphere of its source material, the immersion breaks. For fans of the Zenescope comics or the original Stoker mythos, the final seasons may feel like a departure into a different show entirely—one where the "agenda" frequently overshadows the actual horror and suspense. A disappointing conclusion to a series that had the potential to be a cult classic. See more Rowan C @RowanC3 03/09/2025 The last season of Van Helsing unfortunately disappointed me but I am still glad that I watched it. For three episodes, Jack was back in time in Transylvania in which she uncovered how to kill the Dark One. I think this story took up too many episodes but it really dove deep into the history of the Dark One and how Olivia who is played by Tricia Helfer got possessed by the spirit of the Dark One. It was found that Bathory was the key to kill the Dark One with her scroll but she was turned in that time so Jack was unable to successfully kill the Dark One. All of these events unfolded and Jack managed to save Olivias' baby Christoff von Dracula who was actually named Jack after what she did to save the people of Transylvania. Jack put herself to sleep for hundreds of years just to be found by Violet in the future at a church. This season hyperfocused on a lot of dumb stuff but they pulled it together for the last episodes of the season. The biggest loss of this season and frankly the show, was my goat Julius. He risked his life to save Violet because he was injured beyond repair. He was stabbed in the heart with a cross while fighting a juiced up vampire. Vanessa made her return but first coming to Axel in his dreams but then teleported to D.C. where she had plans to kill the Dark One. Vanessa had very cool powers at the end of the season with having abilities like shapeshifting and telekinesis. Earlier than this, the crew had to split up because Axel had to ensure that at least one of the sisters would make it to the White House. Violet went with Axel and Jack went with Ivory which worked because they all ended up in Washington. Axel and Violet ran into a complete stranger which led to them meeting the president of the United States before the rising and this was Davis Park who is played by Stephen Lobo. His son Aaron Park who is played by by Jeffrey Ballard would offer his help to get into D.C. if Violet turned his dad back into human. What sparked Davis Park to help them was when Aaron who was always hoping that his family was still alive but was disappointed when he found them dead in a SUV. In Washington, Vanessa disguises herself as Nina who is played by Ali Liebert and she manages to fool the Dark One into thinking that she is on her side. This whole charade works out for them because this ends up leading Bathory to a warehouse where she is turned back into a human. Even though the Vanessa took the darkness out of her, she still was too broken because the Dark One would not let her go. She ended up killing herself and also releasing the dark spirit that was kept in the amulet because the Dark One took control of her. The Dark One obtains all of her power back but Vanessa was in Bathorys' mind so she knew the words to freeze the Dark One. The Dark One almost beat them at first but she failed to take control of Vanessa to kill her daughters and gets bitten instead because Vanessa said the spell. The dark spirit leaves the Dark One and Vanessa takes in all of it, making the ultimate sacrifice to save the world. This broke the spell that the Dark One put on Washington when she sent a shockwave that made everyone vampires. Ivory left on a path to save her sisters and Davis Park was appointed president of the United States. Axel was his right hand man and he was given a medal for his courageous acts that he did. Towards the end, Axel was watching over Vanessa just like the very first episode of the show while Vanessa was in her own little world. Vanessa was in a place where Susan and Dylan were, and she got to hug her now grown daughter while speaking words of wisdom as the show ended. Overall, this show was good for the first 3 seasons and then it fell off from there. Sam was by far the coolest and scariest vampire that I have ever seen. It was very cool to see how far all of the characters have come since the very first episode in 2016 and this show is a little bit slept on. I am glad I watched this show and I just wish it would've stayed consistent but it unfortunately did not. The whole show had a problem with staying on topic and it hyper focused on stupid things that didn't benefit the show. There are better vampire shows out there but this wasn't a bad show by any means. See more Timothy T @RT79106158 10/11/2024 I thought season 1 through 3 was great! Season 4 has lost me! I don't think I will be watching season five! I'm like I'm I really watching this crap? What happened to all the characters? It doesn't make any sense! See more Avelino F @RT58256202 01/14/2024 My god what they have done. Season four of stars to derail, season five is unrecognizable. The story has gone. See more Dannie M @RT44638176 12/15/2023 Seasons 1-3 were great, season 4 and 5 were horrible. I was expecting a lot more, it felt empty and like it had lost its path. I was expecting more, specially after the dark one was risen. That, and all the blanks they never filled out See more Al M @ARM0683 09/05/2023 Season 1-3 were a great build up. Season 4 was a long, painful slog. And now with just the first episode of season 5, I'm tapping out. The most interesting characters were nowhere to be found. Just from the episode listing here, it seems obvious they are expecting Jack and Vi to carry the bulk of the season, and they simply aren't that interesting nor believable. Not to mention, neither is that good at acting either. See more Read all reviews
