Birthday: Apr 23, 1990

Birthplace: Harrow, London, England, UK

Prior to 2007, Dev Patel was just another London teenager, albeit one with a passion for acting and tae kwon-do. But after landing a role on the controversial television series "Skins" (E4, 2007-13), he caught the attention of director Danny Boyle, who was desperate for a non-traditional leading man of Indian descent for his new film. The picture, "Slumdog Millionaire" (2008), was a charming comedy-drama about a young resident of the Mumbai slums who earns a shot at improving his life via the game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" Patel's endearing performance helped to make the film a hit with festival audiences around the world; it also signaled the emergence of a comic talent whose full screen potential had yet to be tapped. Patel went on to star in the romantic comedy "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" (2015) and its sequel "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" (2015), indie drama "The Road Within" (2014) and Neill Blonkamp's science fiction drama "Chappie" (2015), as well as taking on a supporting role in Aaron Sorkin's cable news drama "The Newsroom" (HBO 2012-14). A starring role in biopic "The Man Who Knew Infinity" (2016) was followed by a key supporting role in Garth Davis' fact-based drama "Lion" (2016), for which Patel was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

QUOTES FROM Dev Patel CHARACTERS

Sonny Kapoor says: Why not? The man is so handsome, he has me urgently questioning my own sexuality.

Sonny Kapoor says: You see? Profound satisfaction. Such is the inevitable result of a prolonged stay at the Marigold Hotel. To create a home for the elderly so wonderful that they will simply refuse to die. Stare death in the face and say... What are those men doing?

Evelyn Greenslade says: Didn't you have a girlfriend?

Sonny Kapoor says: She is my girlfriend no longer.

Evelyn Greenslade says: This is a disaster.

Sonny Kapoor says: No, no. Then we must treat it just the same as we would treat a triumph, madam. Is that not what your Mr. Kipling tells us? Although, of course, here we have a problem, because I, Sunil Indrajit Kapoor, have never had a triumph. So, of course, I do not know how to treat one. No, all I've had is a constant series of disasters interspersed with occasional catastrophe, an unending stream of total...

Mrs. Kapoor says: Do I need a reason to visit my favorite son?

Sonny Kapoor says: No - he's at his mansion in Dehli.

Mrs. Kapoor says: Alright, my second favorite!

Sonny Kapoor says: He went to Canada to make his fortune.

Sonny Kapoor says: Your bedroom.

Madge Hardcastle says: Where?

Sonny Kapoor says: Here. In here

Sonny Kapoor says: Here. In here.

Madge Hardcastle says: My dear man, rooms have doors. What you're showing me here is an alcove.

Sonny Kapoor says: Everything will be all right in the end and if it's not all right, then it's not yet the end.

Sonny Kapoor says: Welcome! To the best exotic Marigold Hotel!

Zuko says: I will not live in peace until I find the Avatar!

Sonny Kapoor says: “In India, we have a saying – everything will be all right in the end. So if it is not all right, it is not yet the end.”

Sonny Kapoor says: In India, we have a saying; everything will be all right in the end. So if it is not all right, it is not yet the end.
