Born Nov. 5, 1973, in Fort Riley, Kan., American baseball player Johnny Damon had a strong MLB career. Damon played baseball in high school and was named the top high school pick in the country during his senior year by sports magazine "Baseball America." He was also part of the "USA Today" High School All-America team. After high school, he spent several years playing in the minors before making his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals in 1995. He played for the Royals until 2000, then spent a year with the Oakland Athletics before joining the Boston Red Sox, for whom he would play from 2002 until 2005. He next played for the New York Yankees from 2006 until 2009, then had single-season stints with the Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Cleveland Indians prior to his retirement. In April 2018, it was announced that Damon would be joining the cast of Season 26 of "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 2005- ) as part of a special all-athlete competition.
