French film actor Marina Hands earned international praise as the star of director Pascale Ferran's "Lady Chatterley." Hands, the daughter of British stage director Terry Hands and French actress Ludmila Mikaël, initially considered becoming a professional equestrian. When that career proved unrealistic, she switched to acting and trained at Paris's CNSAD and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. After making her stage debut in a 1999 production of playwright Dion Boucicault's "Le bel air de Londres," Hands landed her first film role in Polish filmmaker Andrzej Zulawski's 2000 drama "La fidélité." She continued with notable performances in director Denys Arcand's "The Barbarian Invasions" (2003) and the heart-wrenching drama "Les âmes grises" (2005), for which she was nominated for a Most Promising Actress César Award. Hands collected her first César two years later for her sensual performance as Constance in "Lady Chatterley," a 2006 movie adaptation of D.H. Lawrence's "John Thomas and Lady Jane."
