Maris Martinsons is film director, screenwriter and producer. After graduating Latvia Conservatoires in 1989 as "drama theatre director" he worked together with Latvian musicians as an independent director/producer for music video clips. His first music video clip "This is my car" (by band "Jumprava") was the first independent video in Latvia's music/audiovisual history and won the best clip award in 1989/1990. Since 1991 Maris lives in Lithuania, where together with a partner he founded production company "ARTeta" (1994). During these years company has grown as one of the leading production companies and the biggest studio complex (300, 600 and 900 sq meters big pavilions) in the Baltic States. In the earliest years Maris worked in the TV field, creating TV shows, clips and TV series. He has produced over ten original TV series, multiple shows as director and author of these productions. Each of the productions was a step closer to create a feature film. During 2005 and 2006 Maris has participated in various workshops in Europe developing the skills in script writing, developing and marketing. Close meetings with professionals from the film industry pushed to make his dream fulfilled. In 2006 Maris finally wrote a script for the art-house movie "Loss". The script was written in Jaipur, preparation for the shooting managed from Bangkok, the film shot in Lithuania and Ireland, and finished in Beijing. In January, 2008 film was released in Lithuania. In June, 2008 film has been selected in the Official Competition of the 11th Shanghai International Film Festival and it was awarded with 2 prizes: Best Director and Best Music.
