Shut In (2015) Deirdre Crimmins One bright spot in the film is Martin Starr's performance as one of the invaders. He is cocky and sarcastic, and though not physically intimidating his malevolent attitude makes me not want to spend any time with him.

Shinjuku Swan (2015) Deirdre Crimmins Though the film failed to pull me in it was technically accomplished. The fight scenes are fun and peppy and each of the gangsters toe the line between intimidating and cartoonish.

Chillerama (2011) Deirdre Crimmins The film itself looks beautiful; much better than the small budget films it is emulating. Overall Chilleramawas absolutely worth the time.

Excision (2012) Deirdre Crimmins Excisionis a brilliant film that examines one girl who forcefully stands out.

Errors of the Human Body (2012) Deirdre Crimmins The film itself is quiet, as is Eklund's performance, but the research they are conducting, and the beautiful space of the lab, always give you something to keep your mind occupied.

Mon Ami (2012) Deirdre Crimmins It makes the film and the fact that the characters can take themselves a little too seriously that much more absurd.

Trippin' (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Trippin' is a fun send-up of the kids-in-a-cabin model.

The Victim (2011) Deirdre Crimmins It is never a good sign when the director is not in on the joke.

Hemorrhage (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Director Croft is adept at creating scenes that watch this ersatz couple from the outside, as observers would seem them passing by.

Inbred (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Inbredhad such fun with the kills, that the film practically rolls around in all of that blood itself.

Doomsday Book (2012) Deirdre Crimmins This episode does get a little preachy regarding ideology, but considering the themes here it is to be expected. These sections all fit together to make a complete film that is long in run time, but absolutely worth it.

Alter Egos (2012) Deirdre Crimmins This dialogue is quick witted and punchy, yet not unrealistic. Also, it has the added benefit of seeing some very fit men in some very tight costumes.

A Night of Nightmares (2012) Deirdre Crimmins A Night of Nightmares gave great scares, without any cheap jumps, and it reminded me of the fun you can have while trapped in a house with some pissed off ghosts.

Resolution (2012) Deirdre Crimmins The beauty in the premise of the film is that the tension is built in.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Toad Road (2012) Deirdre Crimmins Toad Road is not a success and I must continue to fantasize about how great the film could have been.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Funeral Kings (2012) Deirdre Crimmins Alex Maizus's performance actually blew me away.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Memory of the Dead (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Memory of the Dead is not quite settled on how much horror, or how many laughs it should balance. But there is a pool filled with blood, and a satisfying twisted ending, so it is worth the effort to hunt this one down.

Dead Sushi (2012) Deirdre Crimmins Dead Sushi is just as much fun as you would hope it would be.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
My Amityville Horror (2012) Deirdre Crimmins Through clever editing of many on camera and audio-only interviews, Walker is able to pull the audience back and forth, until no one is sure whether Daniel is telling the truth, or if he simply has grown to believe his own tall tales.

Deadline (2009) Deirdre Crimmins The script is awful. Not only is the dialogue awkward and unnatural, and the plot impossible to follow, but there is no character development and all of the characters act irrationally.

A Horrible Way to Die (2010) Deirdre Crimmins This is not the easiest film to just sit back and soak in, but it is very satisfying to do the work.

Animals (2012) Deirdre Crimmins I typically have to put a lot of effort into caring about teenagers, it is easy to care about Pol. He isn't lost, of trying to find himself like many predictable teens in films, but rather he is curious and along for the ride when it comes to his time.

Scalene (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Your experience with the film will last long after that scene is over, and the investment of time is absolutely worth it.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Lloyd the Conqueror (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Scott Patey as the slacker Oswald, and Brian Posehn as the owner of the local gaming shop make the film fun.

Wrong (2012) Deirdre Crimmins I might have felt like it was slow moving, but the pacing is actually quite appropriate for the material.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
The Complex (2013) Deirdre Crimmins There are clear attempts by Nakata to establish the emotional gravity of the situation, but these scenes come across as slow, and disrupt what could have been a snappy little film.

The Devil's Carnival (2012) Deirdre Crimmins While The Devil's Carnival fails to deliver the story and character's with anything beyond superficial motivations, it thankfully brought the creepy surrealism... but not much more.

Vile (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Vile attempted to be a film solely about torture, without showing us any of the torturing.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Sushi Girl (2012) Deirdre Crimmins All of the characters are unsympathetic, and the actors all seem to get such joy out of exploring their own sadistic sides.

Red Kingdom Rising (2014) Deirdre Crimmins I suppose that fans of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland will enjoy all of the textual references, but that may be the only way to feel any response for Red Kingdom Rising.

The Last Tycoon (2012) Deirdre Crimmins This is much more of a shoot-em-up than a martial arts film, but the shooting sequences are all lovely and choreographed very well.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Big Ass Spider! (2013) Deirdre Crimmins There is a certain beauty in the simplicity of a literal film title.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Cheap Thrills (2013) Deirdre Crimmins Thankfully, the film gets just as dark as you would expect it to, but the ingenuity of Cheap Thrillsis that is does not follow a predictable path.

Big Bad Wolves (2013) Deirdre Crimmins Big Bad Wolves includes a good amount of humor in the dialogue, but never at the expense of the victims or the plot.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
The Machine (2013) Deirdre Crimmins The Machinedeftly handles humor and action in good balance. With the excellent script the spectacular sets and retro synthesizer score make it a fun science fiction film.

Zombie Hunter (2013) Deirdre Crimmins I would still recommend Zombie Hunter simply based on how fun the first 45 minutes are, but if you walk out or turn it off after that, you won't miss much.

Missionary (2013) Deirdre Crimmins Missionary plays exactly like Fatal Attraction, with an obsessed Mormon missionary rather than the big-haired Glenn Close.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Attack of the Atomic Zombies (2011) Deirdre Crimmins Attack of the Atomic Zombies is not quite at the same quality level as others, but it is still quite a fun flick.

Black Out (2012) Deirdre Crimmins Each of the characters are each funny, untrustworthy, and straight out of a Dutch comic book. The caricatures absolutely work in this type of film, and it is a really fun ride to go along with.

Horror Stories (2013) Deirdre Crimmins Nothing here is going to keep you up at night, but an excellent example of a well-executed horror anthology.

Lesson of the Evil (2012) Deirdre Crimmins You will never hear the song "Mack the Knife" the same way ever again after watching Lesson of the Evil.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Magic Magic (2013) Deirdre Crimmins Magic Magic is a complex film. While not much happens in the plot, it is clear that the film has a lot to say.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
The Dirties (2013) Deirdre Crimmins The performances are all extremely natural and believable.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Frankenstein's Army (2013) Deirdre Crimmins The characters are all boring and interchangeable, and you don't really care if any of them live.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Cottage Country (2013) Deirdre Crimmins Just as funny and as bloody.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Doomsdays (2013) Deirdre Crimmins A delightful film.

Witching & Bitching (2013) Deirdre Crimmins Politics aside, the film is silly and fun.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
The Sacrament (2013) Deirdre Crimmins A welcome example of nearly flawless, original horror, and I am even more excited to follow West's career as a now well-rounded genre director.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
Halley (2012) Deirdre Crimmins Halley is a film that seems to think it is much more clever than it is.
      Posted Aug 21, 2018
We Are What We Are (2013) Deirdre Crimmins What he has created is the perfect example of a film adapting another film's original concepts, but becoming in insular film onto itself.
