Director, Ron Howard (Apollo 13, Cocoon) brings us a suspense thriller, starring Mel Gibson and Rene Russo. Gibson and Russo's performances are terrific and riveting. The suspense and intensity of this movie blend together terrifically. This movie is a must see!

Boring movie about a terrified family whose child is kidnapped. Hated it. Poorly directed, horrible. The worst movie of the year.

It was a decent thriller. The plot was basic but turned into a more unique spin on a ransom movie. Wasn't much action but it had a very great cast of characters and actors. Was to slow paced for me.

This classically corny 90s thriller totally hits the sweet spot for me. I have an odd affinity for Gibson's manic sadness, which we get a ton of here. That news speech alone is worth getting through the terrible score and melodramatic tendencies. Strong performances and dialogue-based suspense.

Gibson's makes his character believable in a story which any parent would disagree with as to the decision he takes. Before I had kids I could understand his choice, with a kid, I find it impossible.

Not a Mel Gibson fan really. This one is just okay. The villain isn't too clever.

A great twist on the ransom film formula. Gibson and the entire cast are at their A game. It's a perfect thriller from the best era of the thriller genre.

An OK movie, it's entertining in some ways, I would'nt recommend it, but it's not bad.

This movie was a very dramatic movie. The acting was good and the action in the movie was emotionally gripping. The plot in this movie was good as well.

Saw this on 11/12/15
Full of plot holes, for instance the film fails to clearly say why the kidnapper would take the money and still not return the victim, you can say that he is a psycho, but then again, how did he manage to convince his accomplices about this in the first place? and if you say that they somehow managed to agree with him, then why did one of them hesitate to kill the victim when all opportunities were present, conscience? Regardless of all that, Mel Gibson and Rene Russo manage to turn in believable performances. Howard directs with flare and tense sequences until the obvious 'bullets flying', 'glass shattering' climax which could have been easily substituted with a better one I believe. The film doesn't bore and it's a good one time watch.

Ron Howard's gripping thriller about a self-made multi-millionaire named Tom Mullen, played superlatively by Mel Gibson in an impressively intense performance, who is the founder and CEO of Endeavor, the nation's fourth biggest airline. Tom enjoys a moderately high-profile and the luxury and comfort of the spacious Manhattan penthouse apartment, where he lives with his wife Kate, played wonderful by Rene Russo, and their young son Sean, played nicely by Brawley Nolte, son of veteran character actor Nick Nolte. Little time is wasted before Sean is kidnapped in New York City's Central Park by a group of well-equipped individuals who hold the young boy and threaten to kill him, if the ransom of two million dollars is not payed. Soon what should have been a standard kidnap-ransom transaction becomes a dangerous deadly game of cat and mouse between the tycoon and the nefarious ringleader. An extremely suspenseful and well-crafted thriller, with terrific direction by Ron Howard, and exceptional supporting performances by Gary Sinise, Delroy Lindo, Lili Tayor, Liev Schreiber, Evan Handler, Donnie Wahlberg, and Dan Hedaya. An engrossing well-written screenplay by Richard Price and Alexander Ignon that is quite effective. A solid entertaining 90s thriller.

pretty awesome movie. not many old movie qualities. great acting across the board. good story that went to unexpected places

the one issue I had with the movie is the legality of someone going on TV and putting a $2 million bounty on someone's head, dead or alive (2 viewings)

Rich kids gets kidnapped in this predictable thriller.

Gritty thriller, well cast with Gibson acting rather than just starring.

Poco valorado thriller, con giros inesperados y buenas actuaciones especialmente la de Lily Taylor y Mel Gibson, creo que es de lo mejor de la carrera del director Ron Howard junto con Splash y The Paper.

Besides a brutally slow opening, Ransom is an intense and unpredictable thriller with a load of clever twists and turns.

A suspenseful movie that drags on forever. The real star was Gary Sinise, who gave an impressive performance. Mel Gibson was pretty much the same as he always is, which isn't always a bad thing, but in this movie it was.
