Six-year-old Susan Walker (Mara Wilson) is skeptical of the Christmas myth surrounding Santa Claus, a trait she perhaps learned from her mother, Dorey (Elizabeth Perkins). When tasked with hiring the Santa who will pose with kids at Macy's, Dorey enlists a man with the curious name of Kris Kringle (Richard Attenborough) who claims to be Santa himself. His assertions are met with scoffs and threats of institutionalization, but a young lawyer, along with Susan and Dorey, comes to his defense.

When [it] remembers that it's supposed to be a sweet piece of hokum, when it has the wit to leave Attenborough and Wilson on the screen together and forget about its rash of putative improvements, it does offer well-scrubbed family fare.

I was bored one afternoon when I came across this movie on Netflix. It’s not the best one to watch for Christmas cheer as the nonsensical story verges on ridiculous, but the 90s vibes sure are nostalgic.

I alternate between the two of them at Christmas. Each of them has their own special charm. I like the little bit of wit at the beginning when the kid thinks he's Santa. I love I am. Well cast well acted and a joy to watch.

This movie is a warm and family-friendly Christmas film with a positive message about believing in kindness and imagination. The performances are solid, especially Richard Attenborough as Santa, who brings charm and sincerity to the role. The story is easy to follow and has a nice mix of humor and heart. However, it feels predictable and doesn’t have the same magic or originality as the classic version. Overall, it’s an enjoyable holiday movie, but not very memorable.
