Haunted by the violent demise of their parents 10 years earlier, adult siblings Kaylie (Karen Gillan) and Tim (Brenton Thwaites) are now struggling to rebuild their relationship. Kaylie suspects that their antique mirror, known as the Lasser Glass, is behind the tragedy. The seemingly harmless reflections contain a malevolent, supernatural force that infects the mind of anyone who gazes into it. As Kaylie gets closer to the truth, the siblings become caught in the mirror's evil spell.

The writer, Mike Flanagan, has created a great atmosphere and has provided context through structure which allows us to feel the back-flash and trauma the adults carry. The supernatural integrates really well within and doesn't seem illogical like other movies. The ending creates an unnerving sense of injustice and makes you question if we should focus on the supernal mirror or the consequences as the confusion still remains but (spoiler) not his sister anymore.

Gillan's excellent performance carries an otherwise lesser script with moments that could have completely fallen flat but good direction and performance creates a spooky atmosphere that makes for a fun B-horror where you're not completely sure what's real and what's not. If you like B-horror or want to see a young Gillan cutting her teeth and earning her A-lister status, this is a great option.
