On the cusp of her engagement to a rich aristocrat, Patricia Hanley (Billie Dove) announces that she will not go through with the marriage. Her heart belongs to another: violinist Paul Gherardi (Basil Rathbone), whom she intends to wed. Although Patricia has sacrificed her social standing to be with Paul, when the musician gains fame his attentions turn to Countess Olga Balakireff (Kay Francis). Patricia's suspicion that she made the wrong decision increases when she runs into an old suitor.
