Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie

Critics Consensus

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie picks up pretty much where its source material left off, delivering an adaptation that, as fans of this British export might say, does what it says on the tin.

Movie Info

Appropriate for their big screen debut, Edina and Patsy are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London's trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever more!

Audience Reviews for Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie

Decent considering the amount of time past. It got an extra half star for the air hostess scene. Rebel is often grating, but she nailed that small role. I literally laughed out loud. I would like to watch this again before reviewing properly as I watched on a plane with bad sound and picture quality and I think I probably missed a few things.

"Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie" lacks the freshness and trenchant wit of the original television series -- but oh my, it's fun!

Tells all the same jokes from the show, but as tends to happens when a show does a movie, the film feels flabby and run-on. Many of the jokes are weak fat jokes at Eddie's expense and there's the usual lip injection and drinking physical gags for Patsy. Patsy shines, stealing the scene more than once. There's some, for Ab Fab, deep examination of the ladies' denial/hatred of aging. Wish there was a smidge more Bubble in this; her outfits (and her compound in France) were, as usual, a spectacular treat to behold. Locations and wardrobe are absurdly fab. The celeb cameos did get a little grating as most of them were wasted on unfunny one liners. This is really a two star movie, but considering that I did laugh out loud a few times, I'll grant it three stars. If you're looking for a shallow character romp, and really that is why we watch Ab Fab, this will dispense enough giggles to carry you from one glass of bubbly to the next.

A worthwhile extended version of the series. Doesn't quite have the same charm as the series but has enough gags to keep the fans happy!
