Critic Consensus: All About Steve is an oddly creepy, sour film, featuring a heroine so desperate and peculiar that audiences may be more likely to pity than root for her.

Movie Info

A brilliant crossword-puzzle designer travels across the country in hopes of convincing a CCN cameraman that the pair is meant to be together, only to find her quest taking an unexpected turn in this romantic comedy starring Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper, andThomas Haden Church. Despite the fact that she has only gone on one short date with the man, a love-struck puzzle creator becomes enamored with a successful cameraman and follows him to a series of media events in hopes that the feeling is mutual. While she is saddened to discover that it is not, she soon becomes involved with a group of misfits who selflessly accept her at face value. First-time feature filmmaker Phil Traill directs a screenplay penned by License to Wed scribe Kim Barker.

Critic Reviews for All About Steve

All Critics (135) | Top Critics (38)

All About Steve is a messy assemblage of clumsy sight gags, winking reaction shots and disingenuous populist genuflection to the idea that there's no such thing as normal. We all see a little bit of Mary in ourselves, don't we? Don't we?

Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy review.

Just when it seems All About Steve couldn't grow any more insufferable, it turns strangely sentimental.

Mary is a memorable comic creation for all the wrong reasons: glibly written, offensively characterised and bizarrely dressed, she's the classic screwball ditz taken to grotesque and at times unwatchable extremes.

Packaged as a romantic comedy but devoid of comedy or romance, this baffling train wreck stars Sandra Bullock as a tediously kooky constructor of crossword puzzles for a Sacramento newspaper.

Audience Reviews for All About Steve

It really is a wonder how these scripts get a green-light. Mild laughs. Cooper is hot. Mostly offensive jokes though.

Okay, I am not going to say this was a good movie, but I still don't get the hate on it. I actually kind of liked Sandra's weird girl character here. It gets dull in the middle, and it's not the happy ending you go into a rom com expecting, but it had a message of self acceptance to it that I really liked. There is no big make over moment, and it doesn't matter, because she was cute all along - in her own way. I also liked DJ Qualls here and Thomas Haden Church.

Loved it! Don't understand why Sandra Bullock got a Razzie for this? Amazing film and so funny. She plays a bunny boiler extremely well and yet funny too. It's such a hard thing to do and she does it perfectly. Sends out a postive message and the end is magnificent. A must see! Ignore the bad reviews. A great film!
