Tre is sent to live with his father, Furious Styles, in tough South Central Los Angeles. Although his hard-nosed father instills proper values and respect in him, and his devout girlfriend Brandi teaches him about faith, Tre's friends Doughboy and Ricky don't have the same kind of support and are drawn into the neighborhood's booming drug and gang culture, with increasingly tragic results.

It was the first hood movie of the 90s that laid the ground works for succeeding films of the same type. It's really good, and I don't really have any new praise that hasn't been said or complaint you've never heard about the film. The script, the directing, and acting is really tight, and it's definitely a very fun watch. If had a nickpick, than it would be that it's the only 90's hood movie that feels more like a 80's film by vibe; not really a complaint. Highly recommend.

A fantastic coming of age story about neglected "ghetto" neighborhoods and the struggle to escape the cycle of poverty, violence, and racism. The all-black cast is fantastic, including Ice Cube, Lawrence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr, Angela Bassett, Nia Long, and Regina King. Tre, Ricky, and Doughboy are all close friends that go down different paths in life. There's a constant looming threat of violence, police sirens, guns shooting, and helicopters flying over the neglected neighborhoods. Gang violence as a result of the war on drugs, the war on crime, and suburban white flight. I love the cute childhood friendship between Tre, Ricky, and Doughboy. It's so sad how Ricky had the winning ticket and we get a heartbreaking reaction from Tre and ESPECIALLY Ricky's family after he's taken out. It's a powerful climax when Tre finally decides to break the cycle of violence retaliation in a bittersweet ending. It's a powerful movie and carefully balances the tone of cool, funny, and tragic.

Overated Ice cube was better in WORLD OF WARS. MADE ME CRY.NEVER SEEN SUCH A MASTERPIECE. I AM PLANNING TO COMIT SUICIDE AS I HAVE SEEN ALL THERE IS TO SEE IN THE WORLD. GOODBYE AND THANK YOU ALL AND MOST OF ALL DAYUMMMM.
