Being over-stuffed and heavy-handed are not even Crossing Over's biggest problems. That dubious honour goes to an absolute failure to address its nominal subject-matter in any meaningful way.

Any one of these stories, if properly fleshed out and shorn of contrivance, would have made for a perfectly serviceable film. Instead, we have lots of hysterical little bits of nothing much.

For anyone who felt that Crash was too subtle and self-effacing, I recommend Crossing Over, a multi-stranded, heavy handed exploration of the issues surrounding immigration and US citizenship.

Crass, contrived, tackily salacious and politically loaded in the most insidious way, this dodgy piece of nonsense purports to be an ensemble, multi-stranded drama in the style of Traffic or Crash.

Sep 09, 2011I am going to have to thoroughly describe the viewing of this epic as : "One tough as nails pill to swallow" totally on account of all of the circumstances of where I have heard over the years about the horror stories I have heard about the border patrol in LA / Mexico on what they do. Here is a film that not only shows what the border patrol does...but shows what the imigrant goes through to get the coveted : "Green Card"...See this, it is a gripping memorable saga.Fascade F Super Reviewer

Oct 15, 2010Earnest - perhaps TOO earnest - trying to be the <i>Crash</i> or <i>Traffic</i> over the issue of immigration. Multistory approach with intertwining threads grows tiresome with only a couple stories really standing out. Same goes for the acting, Ray Liotta's contribution notably awful and in the diner delivers the fakest laugh I've ever heard. Still, I have secondhand experience with how messed-up the issue of citizenship is and <i>Crossing Over</i> attempts to illustrate the shortcomings within the system and does include a few undeniably powerful moments.Doctor S Super Reviewer
