Summary: (3.5/5) The story and cast were good, and the film didn't feel long. A thumbs up. Story/Screenplay: (3.5/5) A classic whodunit. Although I deduced the real killer as soon as the body was discovered, this mystery story still unfolded beautifully. Well written overall. Duration/Tempo: (3.5/5) At 1 hour and 57 minutes, it's a long movie that felt average in length. Nicely directed and edited. Cast & Crew: (3.5/5) Peter Ustinov was excellent. Solid cast all around.

Hugely enjoyable and literate Agatha Christie with a crack cast of screen veterans chewing the gorgeous Majorcan scenery and giving the usual tortuous plot the comic spin it cries out for. Anthony Shaffer is a master at this stuff - his Sleuth is the best parody of Christie out there - and he offers Peter Ustinov in particular plenty of bon mots and sly riffs. Guy Hamilton directs fairly plainly, allowing the location and cast to do all the heavy lifting.

This is a prime example of when a movie is elevated and refined via excellent script, direction, acting, production and costume values. What you get here is a sublime bloom of cinematic splendour; a tour-de-force bolstered by superior acting especially from Maggie Smith and Diana Rigg - who ememplify acting gravitas melded together by sheer talent and experience. A movie of rare, vivid and colourful quality, cohesion and visual impact. A display of excellent talent manifesting a textbook lesson to all aspiring moviemakers. Very highly recommended! Funnier, wittier, sexier, more stylish and scenic than Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. Have watched it numerous times.

Terrific actors having a great time, with a funny, light but thoroughly entertaining script.

Riddled with uninteresting characters who think too much of themselves and detective cliches, and nothing in the plot coming together until half way through. This at least saved by an excellent cast, design and atmosphere.

Poirot as a fish out of water works very well plus the cast of potential murderers and victims are even more colorful than normal.

The best Agatha Christie adaptation ever with a simplified plot stripped of red herrings.
