Critics Consensus

As lumbering and bereft of conscious thought as its unstoppable star, Friday the 13th Part VII - The New Blood finds the franchise in desperate need of the title ingredient.

The filmmakers have mastered the blood but not the tedium of all of the predictable killings. Nor have they eliminated the '"hate-women" subtext to the entire series of films. Go to Full Review

The anxieties suffered by Tina throughout the film are well thought-out by the franchise's typically one-dimensional standards. Go to Full Review

The more ways this franchise tries to make things "fresh," the more we're reminded of how little was there in the first place. Go to Full Review

It's inspirationally bad. However, it holds a special place because it was the last one bad at an actual camp. Go to Full Review

The seventh installment is better than expected, because it reserves the final duel between protagonists...something akin to Carrie vs. Jason. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Shadow R @GeminiShadowRealm 2d corrupt doctor named Crews brings Tina. a girl with telekinetic powers back to Crystal Lake. Tina accidentally resurrects Jason from the bottom of the lake while wishing her deceased father back to life. After Jason goes on a rampage, Tina uses her mind to fight back before her father's spirit emerges to drag Jason back into the depths. Kane Hodder is the definitive, most convincing Jason actor in the franchise, completely nailing the physical presence. The final showdown is highly creative, featuring Tina weaponizing the house by throwing objects, setting Jason on fire, and using a hanging rope and nails against him. While highly entertaining and a personal favorite, it features a slow buildup with Jason only making his first water kill around the 35-minute mark. The telekinesis angle makes it feel less like a traditional Friday the 13th slasher. See more Joe W @JoeH2OsReviews Jun 26 Jason goes on another insane kill streak. I enjoyed the final girl and her powers. Some of the antics throughout the film seem so odd but then again all Friday the 13ths are like that in a way. See more John K @WQCMI May 24 Its got some great ideas, but it was poorly executed. Plus, Carrie vs. Jason? Not the best idea in the world, but still, could've been worse. See more Alex D. @RT24918759 May 17 I love this movie a lot. Super good See more Charles T. @CharlesGaming1000 May 7 supernatural stuff was a bit weird. I didn’t mind because it was something different actually tried to do something different unlike parts 1 to 5. See more zaika - @Zaika Apr 5 Unfortunately, the MPAA was the real Jason Voorhees in this case. The MPAA cut dozens of moments from this film even with the cuts, it is far from a good movie. The fire stunt at the end is what gave this film the ranking. The film sucks in all ways than one, unlikable characters, bland story and genuinely sluggish pacing. I did not enjoy this film and yes, I am a firm hater of the Carrie-esque theme of this film. See more Read all reviews
