A decent rom-com about four couples facing troubles as they head into their impending marriages. This is pretty much everything one would normally expect from a South Korean rom-com. And that's good and bad. It's good in that the film maintains a fairly affable tone, but bad in that there's no real interesting character development to speak of whatsoever. The movie, at least, makes an effort, but there isn't really anything interesting about any of the couples in this movie. It just feels like the scriptwriter had four different stories focusing on four different couples, but there wasn't enough material for any of these couples to justify focusing on just one of them, without it at least dragging or feeling like it was stretched too thinly, so they just shoved all the couples into the same movie with some semblance of a thread holding them together. The couples minimally interact in each other's stories. Like, for example, the wedding planner will, obviously, be involved in some scenes involving the other couples. Or they'll have dinner at the restaurant owned by the guy from one of the other couples. Stuff like that, stuff that's inconsequential to where they really want to go by the end of the film. That's not to say there aren't some insightful moments in the film, but I think it's a movie that's more concerned about being crowd-pleasing than offering a believable look inside modern relationships. There's nothing wrong with that, but you could've easily balanced the two without much of a problem and it'd have been absolutely fine. Maybe it's just me, maybe the film really is more insightful than I would like to give it credit for, but I just doubt that. The film does have its sentimental moments but, thankfully, never devolves into maudlin territory. There aren't any tragic deaths here or unexpected cancer diagnosis, so that was a pleasant surprise. The movie has its sweet moments. I'd like to think they didn't overboard with the sweetness, but that's all dependent on your tolerance for it. Like, for me, it has to be excessively or annoyingly sweet before I really notice anything. Though, to me, in this case, while I wouldn't call the movie good, I think it was earned. I think the characters, most of which really are likable thanks to a committed cast, earned this ending, even if there's no actual variety in it. All of them get their happy ending, which is fine. Honestly, parts of this film reminds me of Love Actually, which I loved, except this is clearly never as good as Love Actually. The thing about Love Actually is that while it had its happier moments for some of the couples, it also had some more melancholic moments, Laura Linney's character, for example, had quite the sad arc, so it at least offered something in terms of variety of outcomes. This movie, however, doesn't really do that and it's honestly worse off for it. It's not like it kills the movie, but it does hurt a bit. And I get what they were trying to do, this was a crowd-pleaser through and through, but you can still be a crowd-pleaser even if some of the couples end up breaking up for one reason or another. With that said, this film was easy to watch. It never feels like it's too long and that's in large part due to the tone and the quick pacing, as it never sticks with one couple for too long, so all of that made the film easy to get through. Again, not what I would call a good movie, but for the standards of South Korea rom-coms, this isn't a half-bad movie in the slightest. It can be enjoyable to some people. Wouldn't go out of my way to see this, but there's nothing wrong with watching this either.
