Ice Age: Continental Drift

Critics Consensus

Ice Age: Continental Drift 3D has moments of charm and witty slapstick, but it often seems content to recycle ideas from the previous films.

Scrat's continuous pursuit of an infernal acorn has world-changing consequences for Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Alberto Leguizamo) and Diego (Denis Leary) when the continents split apart. The continental crack-up separates Manny and his friends from the rest of the herd, including Manny's mate, Ellie (Jennifer Lopez) and rebellious daughter Peaches (Keke Palmer). • ...everything I liked about the original movie has been worn down.

  • Yes, this is the part where I outsource my critical role to my children. If you are the kind of person who (quite understandably) abhors this particular gimmick, you may wish to stop reading now.

  • The best bits are basic and all but voiceless: those Scrat-intensive set pieces, still inspiredly squirrelly if much too far apart.

  • These films are generally good at being good enough, and the fourth installment, Ice Age: Continental Drift, doesn't deviate from that modest tradition.

  • In the end, this latest "Ice Age" movie is about as surprising and unpredictable as a glacier. And not much more fun.

It's time they have to stop making these kinds of movies but leave Scrat behind because Scrat deserves all the attention than the rest of the movie.

While it improves slightly above the third in the series, Ice Age: Continental Drift is just as underwhelming as the other Ice Ages. The daughter-father conflict is dull and cliché and Blue Sky stuffs the film with annoying pop star voices (even if Nicki Minaj can be funny once in a while). The animation is expectedly spectacular and Scrat still steals the show. The fourth film still proves, however, that these prehistoric creatures have run their course. Overall Rating: 47

Sure, the creator's are struggling more and more with adding even more supposedly quirky characters, when the first film worked so great with just four. The attempts to copy current youth culture are also quite annoying. But you know what? Some of the jokes and ideas are still really funny and the film jumps from action sequence to action sequence in really brilliantly looking animation, you just can't dislike it.

Funny, cute, but very forgettable. Plus, I literally lost count if this is the 4th Ice Age or 5th. How many are there? Are they gonna continue to kill a dying franchise? Regardless, I had a good time, not great. Animation's superb though.
