This movie was really creepy and scary and is one of my favorite horror movies. The visual effects were really creepy and cool looking, Mama was so creepy and disturbing, I loved it but they were not totally real looking in some of the scene. The acting from Jessica Chastain, Isabelle Nelisse, Megan Charpentier, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Morgan McGarry. The ending was a little disappointing to me but overall it was a pretty good movie.
Mama is a rare modern horror that focusses on character building. There are genuine spine-tingling scares with atmospheric suspense that builds to an unpredictable ending, also rare in this genre. It will leave you wanting your Mum.
Mama is rather confusing and the title character's motivations definitely will leave you stumped figuring out what the hell just happened but Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's performances, the old-school tension, good cinematography and preference to rely more on atmosphere rather than excessive gore make this Guillermo del Toro-produced horror flick from the guy who go on to direct the two-part film adaptation of IT a relatively decent one even if the movie showed that he had yet to live up to his true potential.
What Mama lacks in good writing it makes up for with great acting by Chastain, Charpentier, and Nelisse. However, a lazy script and a terrible ending ensured a two star rating from me
Recomendo o filme.
absolutely terrifying, one of the scariest movies ive seen. Got a little to wierd at the end tho
Mama has a interesting premise and some creative scares but ultimately doesn't bring something new to the horror genre.
'Brought to you by Guillermo del Toro...' 'Directed by the man who has made the new IT'... (that's supposed to be good right?). This must be great! It's not, it's dreadful, it's formulaic and it's laughably bad at points. Avoid at all costs.
Full of cliches... and a soporific final act... That is Mama in a nutshell.
Mama is a supernatural horror/mystery film that delves more so into our tender emotional side . Something that horrors never do. The character "mama" is different on its objective than most other ghost flicks(just kill characters for no apparent reason) And can be misunderstood by viewers. Is it a greedy sinister guardian refusing to share custody or a wrongly treated person turned spirit looking to find eternal child love it could not have during life? It resembles both throughout the story. The ending is unexpected and shocking. I understood the purpose though. Creative and different. Its worth watching.
