Every generation, a portal opens up between the Outerworld and Earth. Emperor Shao Kahn (Brian Thompson), ruler of the mythical Outerworld, pounces the moment the portal reopens and slips through with his mighty warriors, intent on total domination and uniting the two worlds. However, he has only seven days to complete his task. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is not just a movie based on a video game, it is a sequel to a movie that was based on a video game. That pedigree should tell you all you need to know about the quality of this movie.

Greetings from Lithuania. "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" (1997) is a terrible movie. Acting is terrible, special effects were terrible, as well as directing. There are some interesting documentaries online that shows how this disaster was made - its a interesting stuff. Revisiting this movie in 2026 on a newly remastered 4K UHD by Arrow videos and I did enjoyed it more then when I saw it first time in 1997 - I knew what I was getting into and remaster of 4K itself is splendid - this movie looks amazing on 4K and sound is excellent as well. Those reasons alone, plus with involvement of some beer on evening did made me kinda like this movie on some level - it is fun nonsense. What it does right is that it throws all off the MK characters on screen and makes them show all their special tricks. Overall, fun can be had while watching it with a correct mind set, but 4K UHD edition is highly recommended. Also some light alcohol is a must.
