Critic Reviews for Neptune's Daughter
The variety of the story is heightened by the really beautiful scenery amid which it is acted and the elaborateness of the setting throughout.
Apart from the unique effects achieved in the picture, it is of more than ordinary interest to Melbourne audiences, because the name part is sustained by Miss Annette Kellerman, a former resident of this city, who has achieved some aquatic fame abroad.
"The Cave of the Wind" and "The Witch of the Sea," all in one scene, with the Witch employing her supernatural powers of transformation... are sufficient in themselves for the youthful to ask their elders to please take them again "to see that picture."
It is in the pictorial quality, however, that lies the factor that will bring to Neptune's Daughter its greatest houses and its longevity, for beyond question it is a picture that will live.
Evidences of the skill of the producer are abundant in the dressings and groupings; and particularly so in the selection of marine caves and nooks, in which mermaids and fish sport and play.
The film is tinted... with color that bring out the natural beauty of the surroundings. The caves at the bottom of the sea, the interiors, the fishing scenes are all fitting and supply the atmosphere so hard to obtain in a picture of this class.
