07/14/2010 wow, people and buildings in north korea are different from what I expected.. :) Indeed, they are normal like us and seem to enjoy their life at home and at work. everyting is focused on their system / ideology from kids to old men. they keep saying "Americans are their enemies and they are terrible and they want to kill them" because they killed their family in the korea war.... At work, I see how their system works via meetings among manager and group leaders... it looks good to know... when screening this film with north koreans, some comments of director's are translated differently / softly by north korean translator. it's not too bad but he doesn't want them to know truth from the point of view of foreigners about north korea..... still they are happy in closed country.... See more 11/07/2009 I think that North Korea is the country in the world that makes us more curious to know about them. Because they are so isolated from the rest of the world, it is hard to imagine how it is to live in that country and also a lot of bad stories were created about them. Thus, the most shocking thing from watching that movie is that most of the stories are actually true. This movie is a really good documentary that shows a normal day in life of a typical North Korean family. This movie shows us in a very explicit way the hate for the USA and the admiration to that repressive dictator that they have. See more 04/09/2008 Amazing look at a country few westerners get to see. Some obvious "help" with the story from the gov., but still interesting to see people laughing and joking from time to time, not just cowering in fear. See more 01/06/2008 Fleury offers a insightful glimpse of daily life in the hermit state with this fascinating fly-on-the-wall documentary. See more 12/28/2007 Excellent film of North Korea. Gives a great view of what their country is and whatit stands for in general. A must see for a current events film. See more 12/27/2007 I really like this film, but it's quite flawed in a few ways. Yes, it's a day in the life of several members of a North Korean family. Yes you get some interesting views of Pyongyang, and yes, you'll get vehement discontent vented at the United States quite often. But when you compare this to State of Mind, the characters just don't jump out as much. They seem like they were thrown into doing this movie, and especially the mother of the family seems like a puppet, nervously spouting out propaganda to appease the government and get the film crew out of their daily life. Still, there are some amazingly human moments, like the English class (wow, they weren't screaming "death to America!"), or the grandfather wandering around Pyongyang. Wholly worth watch, especially if you are a North Korea fanatic, but it feels real cold at the end of the day. See more Read all reviews
