See more Raquel E @raquelea 1d A wonderfully witchy celebration of sisterhood, womanhood, and embracing who you are, with the relationship between the sisters giving the story its real heart. I loved the magic, the multigenerational female bond, and the way the story ultimately finds strength in women coming together, with Gilly easily being the highlight for me. The pacing is too slow, the plot itself is only moderately engaging, and the romance works better thematically than emotionally, but there’s enough warmth, personality, and genuine affection at its core that I’d happily watch it again. This movie isn’t a cult classic and a viewer favorite for no reason. I watched this movie with hope, given its strong cast and seemingly fun premise. I have to say that I just don't like this movie. I feel it is often really boring and also has a story that is all over the place. The big moments in the script feel kind of random, and I didn't really enjoy the way it played out. Overall, I could see why maybe it's a fun cult movie to some, but for me, I just felt it was kind of bad, and I don't really get why that is the case. See more Petros T @PetrosTserpelis Aug 18 The first third leans so much into a lightweight, unmagical '90s tone that you'd be forgiven for thinking you put on the wrong film. Also, every character moment is there just to be checked off on the list, like mere clogs that drive the story forward. However, the film comes alive after the car scene: though still prone to losing its footing due to the tonal uncertainty and murky writing, it's a breeze to sit through and delivers some good situational humour. The cast is solid across the board with Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman playing sisters her are polar opposites, while the great Diane Wiest & Stockard Channing are fun as their eccentric aunts. Unfortunately, the story never comes together under Griffin Dune's direction, despite a mix of stories like abusive boyfriends and finding true love that could have made a much better film.
