This movie hits a weird genre that I have profoundly mixed feelings on: tech movies for kids. On the one hand, kids should hear the message about screen time and likes and this weird new culture. On the other hand, it takes away a timeless quality. If Snow White was doing selfies, she wouldn't be a timeless classic. So yeah I'm always split emotionally with films like this, but ultimately the message of Ron's Gone Wrong is good enough it swayed me.
But what truly won me over is how godamn funny the movie is. Does Ron have some serious Baymax vibes? Sure, but he's great, and consistently hilarious. Like, pause the movie because you might miss the next joke level of hilarious. Once Ron comes into the movie I was laughing consistently and hard. It's also a good message of friendship of what you think a friend is isn't always the magic formula.
The movie isn't perfect, the laughs do slow down in the final act, and there's a pretty superfluous bonus climax with a tacked-on villain. But the message is solid and it's very funny for most of the ride.
