When Frank Hurley accompanies Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew on their journey to Antarctica, he brings a slew of camera equipment with him. As he documents every step of their journey, the ship collides with ice and is unable to move. The passengers wait for a rescue for several months, but must move on after the ship finally sinks. Shackleton must ultimately lead his crew through 800 miles of stormy seas and ice to the safety of a whaling station.

06/29/2011 It is to Frank Hurley's great credit that this footage exists, he kept documenting even as the expedition became a battle to survive. What let's the picture down is the inclusion of so much unrelated nature footage which although explained by the contemporary voice-over as commercial additions they did detract from the film.
