I love western movies and try to watch them time to time. Sadly they don't make many and good ones often lately. Anyway this movie was actually quite good but very long 4 hour splitted in 4 parts.. Could perhaps have been shorter but the movie had a decent story and some great actors aswell. Randy Quaid , Sissy Spacek (Carrie) , James Garner and more.. very watchable flick overall.

Decided that I liked the original Lonesome Dove the best. It's not the same without Gus.

This TV mini series is the last book in the trilogy of Larry McMurtry. The series follows the latest adventure of Texas ranger Woodrow Call (played by James Garner).

For a made-for-television miniseries, this was really well done. James Garner, Sissy Spacek and Sam Shepard anchor a cast that most Hollywood producers would kill for, not to mention Ned Beatty, George Carlin and a stand-out performance by young Alexis Cruz. Good drama in classic American Western style.

THe wardrobe and weaponry are absolutely authentic. No Hollywood contaimination with buscadero rigs and JR Ewing stetsons. Well casted by fine actors. A good fast paced plot with real life scenarios of the age along side other great films such as Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven. The Lonesome Dove trilogy and Streets of Laredo can sit easy in the classic western hall of fame.

Great western! I watched it on someone else's recommendation. Very good choice. The only thing that would have made it better is if they had used the original cast from Lonesome Dove (Tommy L. Jones, Diane Lane, etc.).

Pretty long, it took me 2 days to watch it. Surprised most of the cast was older...Sissy Spacek, Sam Shepherd, James Gammon, James Garner. Couldn't believe Joey Garza was played by Angel Raphael from "Touched by An Angel."

This is the best and favourite Larry McMurtry western movie than the original Lonesome Dove. James Garner made his magnificent performance as the role of Capt. Woodrow Call, and his final scene is at once heart breaking and resonating with strong quiet hope. A wonderful cast does memorable work, especially Sissy Spacek, Sam Shepard and Randy Quaid.
In this film, pure of heart may not necessarily mean pure of deed, but at least evil is evil and good is good. It bravely balances the aformentioned violence with scenes of wry humour and gentleness.

In my view a good sequel to Lonesome Dove. The first half is slow, but the characters burn up the screen in the second half. Alexis Cruz, Sonia Braga, James Garner, Sissy Spacek, and Sam Shepard give great perfomances.

Not nearly as good as the original Lonesome Dove.
