Hubby and Wife date night and we both had the exact same 6.2/10 score for 'The Favourite' which was another in the long line of disappointing films from Yorgos Lanthimos. We just can't get into em, but we figured this may be different because he didn't write it. It's beautiful and never uninteresting, but never will we watch it again. The acting here is great and there are a few stray laughs, but this will be the last time we watch a Lanthimos film. Clearly, we don't get him.
The more I see of Lanthimos' work, the more I think he initially picks a good central topic and then spoils it by concentrating on issues which do not need so much obsessive underscoring. This one could have been an interesting story if the whole focus hadn't been the soft-porn lesbian angle, repetitive to a fault, until it becomes increasingly predictable and boring.
The Favorite is an amazing movie and its funny is nominated for many awards and it has on of the best actor like Joe Alwyn,Emma Stone, Nicholas hunt etc. its phenomenal.
Positively one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. The trailer pulled me in, but I feel cheated. Only reason I didn't walk out is that I kept hoping something would improve due to the critical rave reviews it rec'd. The music was grating and some of the scenes I could barely watch. The two people with me felt the same. I Love all these actresses so it was a huge disappointment.
Pretty great movie, with an awesome performance from Olivia Colman. Although it was not the most immersive movie experience I've ever had, I did enjoy it.
Three very good performances by the ladies in a period piece with a story worth telling. The Favourite is a good movie, but my only memory of it now is
T H E
R I D I C U L O U S
T I T L E
S E Q U E N C E S
I walked out. I think I've maybe walked out of one movie before in my life. It made me feel gross.
A dark costume movie balancing between comedy and drama, you wont be bored, you'll laugh occasionally and you'll even pity them all at some point.
True masterpiece! Olivia's work is magnificent!
